The 1957 Clare County Free Fair opens Tuesday August 6 and runs to Saturday night with mid way rides vaudeville fireworks and the Jose Chitwood auto thrill show. Harness racing with higher purses returns over three days starting Thursday with a rebuilt track and potential new records. Children s Day on Wednesday features a bicycle drawing for a boy and a girl and exhibit spaces expect about ninety adult entries and over sixty 4-H and FFA youths.

Auto Accidents In Low Gear Through July
Clare City Police investigated two July traffic accidents involving out of town drivers. On July 24 Vernis Rueben Pearce 18 of Ortonville rear ended John William Smith of Birmingham on US 10 eastbound. Another on July 24 Robert Leonard Smith Alma truck driver rear fendered a parked car on US 27 from West Fourth Street owned by Lela IM Allen of Clare. A 22-year old drag racer pled guilty July 24 to reckless driving from July 6. John L Rodgers of Ionia and Farwell was arrested on McEwan Street in Clare with a $29.30 fine and costs assessed by Justice William B Dunlop.

Russell Wilson of R-2 Farwell was injured Friday morning at his farm when the front end of a tractor fell on his foot. He was changing the front tire and accidentally kicked the jack out from under the vehicle. He was taken to Mt. Pleasant Community Hospital for treatment of foot injuries.

Car Fire Destroys Beaverton Man's Vehicle Near Clare
Art Dull of Beaverton lost his automobile in a blaze south of Clare on Tuesday evening. Fire Chief Stan Parish said cause is unknown and that a pary line interference delayed response, worsening the loss which included tools and parts worth hundreds of dollars stored in the car.

Amy Fay Schlafley, stillborn daughter of Mr and Mrs Leon Schlafley, was laid to rest July 30 1957 after a prayer service at 3 30 p m at the Coker Funeral Home Farwell. Burial was in Gilmore Cemetery. Survived by parents a sister Debbie grandparents Edward Schlafley Sr Farwell and Elmer McLauslan East of Ewart and other relatives. The family shared a devotional verse about God taking their messenger today.
