Mr and Mrs J L Littlefield recount a California visit detailing meetings with Michigan expatriates in Santa Monica and Los Angeles. They describe weather, renewed moisture aiding farms, and visits to Heynes and Whittier families with notes on homes, farms, and local activity.
Mable Maud Walton born October 13 1887 in Herrick Michigan died April 18 1927 at her Clare home after cancer illness. She married Earnest Beale December 25 1902 at Clare. Survived by husband and daughter Mrs Gladys Dale twin sisters Gertie Grigg Grace Blystone and many relatives. Funeral in Clare Methodist church conducted by Rev W S Teeter. Interment Cherry Grove.
The Princess Theatre has installed a new motor driven twenty six hundred dollar organette by the Wurlitzer company. The instrument can be used as organ or piano without the motor and features rolls by top artists with piano and organ playback. It enhances the theatre’s entertainment offerings.
Luther village fire committee members W S Garnett Cecil Truman R J Bradford and Fred Johnson visited Clare on Wednesday to inspect the Barton Robinson pump on Clare’s rural fire truck Chief C A Wellman and five firefighters gave a live water throw demonstration at the river bank. Visitors praised Clare department courtesy and the Barton pump concept and will urge their village council to buy a chassis and similar setup to Clare’s current unit.
A family expresses sincere thanks to neighbors and friends who worked to save household effects during a house fire last week. They also gratefully acknowledge the help and kindness shown since the incident.

A pretty home wedding took place Sunday at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. I. H. Hampton. Miss Annabell Grover became the bride of their son Leo Hampton in a rose tan and gold gown. The ceremony was by Rev. H. B. Johnson with Bessie Woods as soloist. The couple will reside after May first.
Thomas H. Maynard, a former Clare youth, took the oath as Royal Oak township justice of the peace on Monday morning April 11. He fills a three month vacancy and will serve a full four year term, succeeding W. Bryan Newman. Maynard has practiced law with his brother after graduating from Detroit College of Law and resides at 1341 Albany Street, Leggett Farms. The Semmines extend congratulations and best wishes.
The Tri County Field and Track group representing Clare Midland and Gladwin counties voted six to four to discontinue the meet for one year Clare favored continuing while Beaverton and Gladwin voted to stop The Clare team last year won by a large margin and would likely defend their title if held but now will miss this season of competition

The comedy Irish Eyes was staged Monday evening at the Mt. Pleasant high school auditorium by the local cast. James McManaman led the cast with a strong voice and stage presence, and the entire performance drew generous applause from a large audience. The evening featured vaudeville numbers and a good orchestra under Prof. Edgar Peterson, with post performance hospitality at the parish house hosted by St. Cecelia altar society.
Sixty eight thousand trout fry were planted in Clare county streams last Saturday. The Clare Rod and Gun Club applied to the federal fisheries department and Northville hatchery supplied the stock. Organised sportsmen's work and Roy O. Woodruff's recommendations enabled the large delivery.
The Methodist and Baptist churches will unite for Sunday evening services this summer. Services will alternate between the two churches at 7 30 p m starting next Sunday. Pastors will conduct in their own church with union choirs. Revs Smith and MacDonald invite all to join in the hour of worship.
The Good Literature Club announces the postponement of their meeting until Monday evening April 25. They will meet with Mrs. Adelaide Biden. A notice also advertises a position for a girl for general house work with Mrs. Hine Poss.
G Richard Bogan, Clare high school principal for three years, is elected unanimously to succeed W Roger Zinn as superintendent for next year. Born on a Vernon township farm, he graduates from Clare High and holds a BS from Michigan State College 1916 with postgraduate study there and at the University of Michigan. He owns a Vernon township farm and enjoys broad local respect as a capable citizen and neighbor. The district and high school students approve the election.
A feature at the high school auditorium last Friday included a sixth grade debate on whether the soldier serves his country more truly than the farmer. Chair Lela Davis led the affirmative speakers Clyde Davis Bernadine Hutchinson and Keith Johnson while Neal Hiden Waldo Fischer and Mildred Cleveland spoke for the negative. judges Mrs Hachmuth Mrs Maybee and Mrs S M Callihan awarded the affirmative team. The report highlights the commendable daily work of Superintendent Zinn and staff and notes the large parental attendance at programs.
Clare High School defeated Farwell 7 to 2 on the local diamond in the season opener. Glare starred in fielding while Farwell’s pitching held strong. The Glare players appear to be a solid baseball squad this year and may earn creditable results with more experience and training. Community support at future games was urged.
Alton E Lautzenheiser of Hatton township and Bernice L Tew of Harrison were married at the Congregational parsonage last Friday by Rev H B Johnson. Attending were Henry R Heintzelman and wife of Lincoln township.

Mr and Mrs J C Newman of Arthur township hosted Easter Sunday with nine children and families under one roof for the first time in years. The day featured visits, new babies, a family photo, and guests Nedrow Marion of Lansing and Cecile Gordon.
William Flegel born June 4 1855 in Williams County Ohio died April 14 1927 at his Clare home aged 71 years four months ten days. He married May Ordeway March 11 1883 and had seven children with one daughter dying in infancy. Survived by wife and six children Pearl Saginaw Flora Johnson Clare David Russel Lansing Gladys Coss Owosso Otto at home two brothers George Kalamazoo Percy Edgewood Clarice Grant Rebecca Florida and many relatives. Funeral services were held at Thurston Funeral Home with Pastor Lewis Basore Coleman and burial at Cherry Grove.
O. D. Bayes of Shepherd has taken possession of the Clare building once housed by Clare Creamery Co. He plans to install new equipment and offer top quality baked goods. Meanwhile John Dionise has rearranged his fruit store and will run a short order restaurant in the same building.
Residents urged to meet at Vernon cemetery four miles south of Clare on Tuesday afternoon April 26 at 1:00 to beautify the grounds. Bring tools and ensure someone tends every lot if not attending.

Marewell A Wilson died after a brief illness at her daughter’s home 8 Ballard Street Ypsilanti. Born August 18 1843 in Brandon township Oakland County she taught in district schools before marrying Farewell A Wilson in 1865. She leaves four sons and two daughters plus many grandchildren and is buried in Glenwood cemetery Flint.
Veteran taxi driver Jacob Mason lost control of a new Pontiac Saturday evening near Wm. H. Bicknell store. The car struck the curb and the storefront, breaking two large windows but causing no injuries. Mason believes it will not happen again.
The Princess Theatre announces a week of shows from April 23 to 29 featuring Bella-Ray mond Griffith the comedian Sun-Man the Auctioneer Geo Sydney and Marion Nixon in a Canadian wheat fields drama with Thos Meighan delivering standout work. Betty Compson stars in Belle of Broadway with The Silent Flier serial and a Tuesday matinee at 3:30 priced 20c and 10c.
The Ladies Library Association holds its annual meeting at the Library Tuesday evening April 26 at 7 30. Officers recommended by the committee include President Mrs Josephine Anderson Vice President Mrs Beulah Caple Secretary Mrs Ann Greer Treasurer Mrs Emma Harris.
