First Clare Bank Approved for Clare Michigan

Richard J. Francis of the Michigan Department of Commerce on March 31 approved the formation of the First Clare Bank in Clare. Herby Wybenga says organizers expect full regulatory clearances this summer. The bank will offer full service commercial banking with drive in facilities and will be a subsidiary of the First Bank Corporation once FDIC insurance and Fed approval are obtained.

Clare Kiwanis to honor three brothers at 42nd banquet

The Clare Kiwanis Club will honor the three Cappaert brothers Francis Carl and Donald at the 42nd annual outstanding athlete banquet on April 27 at Hotel Doherty. Francis is the 1938 winner Carl the 1943 winner and Donald the 1947 winner. The club will announce the 1977 outstanding athletes and award both a male and a female honoree. Bob Devaney of the University of Nebraska will be the keynote speaker.

Clare man escapes injury in train crossing crash

Clarence James Allen, 72, of Clare, escaped injury when his car was struck by a 74 car train at the C and O crossing on McEwan Street near Johnston's Elevator. Police say the northbound car was nearly clear as it was hit at the right rear fender, then knocked northeast. The accident was the third involving vehicles and trains in Clare in two weeks, with traffic blocked nearly 26 minutes on McEwan Street by the Doherty Hotel.

In Clare County two 4 year seats in Clare and Harrison districts are open with multiple candidates each. Clare incumbents Burke Rilett Allen Demarest Albert Sacco Madge Ruark seek votes while Harrison incumbents Kenneth Haskell Carl Rowe face Kay Haskin Emory Wall Harvey Croze John Burnett Jr. Farwell voters decide 2 one year seats with W Michael McGuire Thomas Kedrowski facing Betty Jean Smith. Millage votes: Clare seeks 3 mills for operations. Harrison renewal 15 mills plus 1 mill for 3 years. Farwell may seek 3 mills for 5 years at a June election workshop on April 13.

Clare Nursing Home seeks state approval for expansion

The Clare Nursing Home plans to relocate offices and convert vacated space into one private and two semi private rooms. The change would add five beds for a total of 65. The owners estimate costs at 1500 dollars and say the work would take little time. They have filed a Certificate of Need with the Division of Health Facility Planning and Construction.
