The Clare Study Club met Tuesday afternoon at East Fifth Street home of Mrs. Adelaide Wylie. Plans announced for a rummage sale at McKeever building this Friday and Saturday April 16 with guests from Federated Clubs of Michigan and local clubs. Art Day featured displays of student dresses quilts paintings posters and crafts.

Harvey D. Kratz Dies After Illness in Clare
Harvey D Kratz died in a Ann Arbor hospital early Saturday April 6 after several months illness. He was born September 27 1879 in Shepherd grew up on a local farm and married Pearl Tingley. He lived in Clare since 1909 with stints in Anna Astor and Shepherd. He leaves wife two daughters Mrs Robert Straight and Mrs Frank Hartman and three grandchildren. Also his mother Mrs Amelia Kratz and sister Mrs Anna Kallogg of Mt Pleasant. Funeral Monday at home in Clare conducted by Rev George P Stanford. Burial in Salt River Cemetery near Shepherd.

Work started Monday on a new oil well derrick for the Farwell Oil and Gas Co in Farwell. The project near the Farwell Mills and Elevator Co is led by local businessmen and targets production along a line from the Mt. Pleasant field through Leaton and Vernon fields. Drillers expect to spud in early next week. In Isabella county Bloomfield township W J Bernier reports Gatehouse No 1 gas well at 2 8 million cubic feet with No 4% derrick work under way.

Eight Point Lake Designated Bass Lake Change Issued
Garfield town ship Clare county lake once a pike lake has been changed back to bass lake by the Department of Conservation. Fishing is unlawful from April 30 until the bass season opens June 26. The department asks fishermen to protect spawning fish, especially in selected waters, during the period.

Representatives from Clare Beaver ton Coleman Harrison Huart and Tustin high schools meet Friday April 12 at 8 00 pm in Clare High School auditorium for six declamations three orations and one extempore speaker. Burch Home Damaged by Fire Friday
Last Friday morning the city fire department was called to Mrs. Sarah Burch's home on East 7th Street where an overheated stove started a blaze. The fire spread through the upright structure before discovery. firefighters with two trucks brought it under control. Loss is estimated near $2000, partly covered by insurance.
