A Clare county drive to inform voters about a local special education program begins with 4000 leaflets. A June 11 mill levy proposal funds visiting teachers speech correctionists and specialized classrooms for handicapped students in cooperation with J C McNamara and district boards.
Girl Scouts Troop 8 hold a car wash at Beck's Standard service station on Saturday April 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds support the girls self-help in their scouting program.
Rod and Gun Bowmen finished indoor winter shooting at Clare Rod and Gun Club House with 18 archers in six teams. Work bees laid out a new 14 target outdoor range. next work sessions are April 5 and April 8. Final standings crowned Kenroe Amusement, Mott Mountain, Shear's Hardware, City Bakery, White Tail Archery, MBT with trophies. 400-plus shooters honored for high scores.
Coleman voters rejected two financing proposals for a town sewage system a special assessment of 89000 and general obligation bonds of 210000. The plan included a half million dollar lagoon and tile mains. Mayor Dean Keller was reelected 176-171. Other results listed for town offices and wards.
The Michigan POA club sponsors an April 14 meeting at Clare Congregational Church open to the public. Movies on the new Pony of the Americas breed will be shown and the animals’ unique traits explained. The Girl Scouts of the U S A unveiled a four level age structure starting September 1963 with Brownie 7 8 Jun ior 9 10 11 Cadette 12 13 14 and Senior 15 16 17 years. Troop patterns stay same until then as the new naming sequence signals progression.
The 1962 cancer drive begins in April with Beta Sigma Phi sorority fundraisers. Canvassing in Clare, Harrison, Lake and Farwell runs from April 15 through month end with house-to-house campaigns and business district blitzes. A public dance at the Doherty hotel is sponsored this Saturday evening. All members have tickets for sale and donations go to Miss Jo Koch, Clare County Cancer Crusade Chairman.
Dr. Robert J. Krainik a Clare osteopathic physician and chief of surgery at Clare General Hospital died suddenly from a heart condition. He chaired the hospital board, practiced with Dr. E. C. Sharlow, and was a 32nd degree Mason. Funeral services were held in Clare and Milwaukee burial followed. A memorial fund was established to equip Clare General Hospital.

Mrs. Ruth Fransted Clare Elementary physical education teacher attended Central Michigan University for the 2nd Annual Physical Education Clinic. Tony Miele gymnastics coach demonstrated rope jumping conditioning exercises stunts tumbling and balancing among many topics covered.
Dairy leaders from Clare and Gladwin counties will tour three farm operations on Friday April 6 with Extension Directors Richard Schroeder and Paul Pennock. The itinerary includes McKay Farms with 84 Brown Swiss cows, Howard Penrose & Sons with 74 cows, and Roger McMahon Farm noted for high sales per cow, plus a noon lunch and MSU dairy facts.

A sacred music concert featuring Dick Anthony organist pianist and singer with an ensemble will be held Sunday afternoon April 8 in the Elementary School auditorium Clare. Central Michigan Youth for Christ sponsors the free event inviting the public to attend.

Eighteen year old Kenneth Frances Zawicki of Detroit turned himself in to Clare Police Officer Vining stating he ran away from home on Saturday March 31 and wished to be returned. Parents were contacted in Detroit and arrived in Clare at 1 45 a.m. to take custody of the boy.
