Clare Landmark Fire Destroys Dunlop Bar and Cafe
A red brick building at 5th and McEwan in Clare burned last Tuesday for the third time this century. Fire Chief James Brinkerhoff said it was a major blaze as 50 firefighters from Clare and nearby towns fought the flames. snorkel truck aid helped save the block. No injuries were reported.

Clare Historical Society Plans Membership Drive
The Clare County Historical Society formed recently held an officers and committees meeting at Mid Michigan Community College. Frances Krell announced a membership drive and letters of inquiry arrive from Detroit. The group plans a member handbook with officers, programs, and goals. Clare County Tax Take Expected To Rise In 1970
Government forecasts show national personal income taxes at 92.2 billion. Clare County’s share is projected near 5.838 million, about 329 thousand more than last year. The higher levy reflects local income growth and a 10 percent surtax through 1969, with changes planned for 1970 and a one time windfall from faster tax collection.
