AUTW signs 21 month contract with A T and T Long Lines
The American Union of Telephone Workers signed a 21 month contract with the A T and T Long Lines Dept on June 4 breaking the three year pattern. There are no immediate wage increases but a wage reopening is possible and the contract may be canceled after one year if wage talks fail. The Presidential Board of Inquiry hearing is postponed and will exist 60 days while members vote on acceptance. Improvements include local wage increases from 1 to 4 dollars, better night differentials, improved seniority, and holiday pay arbitration. Local 28 ballots will be mailed after a special meeting with national officers invited.

Harry Welsch was elected president of Oil Workers Local 508 at Cleves. Leon ard Dunaway and Edgar Rouse named as vice presidents from Gulf Refinery and International Mineral & Chemical respectively. Other officers include Floyd Young, George Morgan, Stanley Eckel, Cliff Gutzwiller, Kenneth Taylor, Francis Duncan, Joseph Jackson. Refinery group chose Dunaway as chairman and others for officer roles. Mineral and Chemical results list Rouse as chairman and Callaway as recording secretary. Local began contract talks with Gulf Refinery and plans a membership drive offering a month’s dues for new members. Representatives Taylor and Kruse chosen for District 6 convention. three delegates expected for international convention in August.
