Strawberry Recipes and Serving Ideas from Fresh Berries

Fresh berries are washed in cold water and drained carefully. Use promptly, or store on waxed paper in a flat pan. The first fruit is best eaten plain with sugar, then try shortcakes pies whipped cream and various desserts. Strawberry mousse iced with lemon juice milk sugar and whipped cream can set in ice water. A pink icing blends mashed berries with powdered sugar for cake spreads.

Labor Dept. Wage Hour Division found 1,311 employees owed 22,153 in back wages during a nine month period ending April 1 due to violations of the wage hour act despite a 40 hour week.

Workers at United Screw and Bolt in Cleveland backed the Auto Workers with 192 of 201 ballots in a CIO aligned election. Nine votes opposed UAW, solidifying representation by the union.

Overseas Clothing Drive Ends with Sunday Pickup

Community expects a Sunday pickup for Overseas Relief bundles collecting worn clothing shoes and sewing materials from Cincinnati residents under the Cincinnati Committee of Church Work Service. Residents place bundled items at the curb for pickup by authorized trucks aided by Boy Scouts and YMCA groups for shipment overseas to meet urgent needs.

Real Estate Lobby Fights Housing Bill on Capitol Hill

The real estate lobby, led by two Washington Realtors, pressed House Banking and Currency to bury the Taft Ellender Wagner housing bill. Senate passage came April 22, but in the House the bill stalls under Rep. Wolcott. Nazi Association of Real Estate Boards spokesmen Snyder and Carr argued public housing would be minimal, while Monroney challenged Carr on his figures and trust in Congress.
