Cincinnati CIO unions announce a two week campaign August 14 to 28 to fund the fight against inflation. They urge workers to contribute $1, recruit peers, boycott high priced goods, and register at 622 Sycamore Street to vote out inflationists.
In Cincinnati, a 100 year old tenement at 901 Hopkins Street collapsed after creaks and groans as tenants fled. James Mahaffey, 2, survived under debris. others escaped unharmed or were rescued. The piece assigns blame to powerful real estate interests blocking public housing in an election year.
New York report notes rising living costs under price relief limits while Labor Research Assn highlights booming profits for big business in first quarter 1946. Commerce Dept data show production and sales at record highs with tax changes boosting net earnings. Poor's expects full-year profits to double 1945 in many sectors.
The AFL and UAW CIO report a 32.1 percent rise in living costs in Detroit from the death of OPA to July 15. The survey covers meat fruit vegetables and dairy products.

Cincinnati Councilman Rollin H. Everett seeks a tenement housing probe after the Hopkins street collapse endangering a dozen people. He asks the city manager to report on unsafe housing during the shortage and possible temporary repairs or vacating unsafe dwellings. CDA also calls for a complete building safety survey.
Kermit Eby presented the keynote at Antioch College for the second CIO-PAC Summer School in Yellow Springs Ohio. He urged labor to develop capable leaders within its ranks to handle crises and promote higher living standards and peace globally.
