The Standard Oil Company plans to develop water power and gas where feasible using surplus capital. It has begun acquiring lighting and power plants in New Jersey and New York and may form a holding company to buy such assets. The move aims to supply domestic and industrial needs with oil as a fuel option plus water power where available.
