Prominent Cincinnati business leader Julius Dexter died suddenly of heart disease at 8:45 PM in Avondale. The longtime public servant was lauded for integrity in the Senate and as a founder of Cincinnati’s sinking fund, museum, and cultural institutions, leaving a legacy of civic service and philanthropy.
News from Clairville California reports a morning fire at Chat Roberts' hotel killing five occupants including Florence Roberts 7, and a woman unnamed. Owner Mr Roberts escaped by leaping from a second story window with severe injuries. others fled with only the clothes they wore. Origin not determined though suspected defective chimney. Property loss described as not great.
Washington reports the Cuban evacuation will push past the original date as Spain faces a near impossible task to move about 120000 soldiers and their equipment by sea. Officers chase alleged murderer Jackson Jackson after a stray shot killed John P. Bray near Bray’s horse. Bray died instantly from a heart shot as Jackson fired from beside him. Jackson, last seen at Rays crossroads, escaped near Willows Shade after an exchange of gunfire with Marshal Collins and Bailey. If captured, a lynching threat is reported amid hot pursuit.
Edward Gilbert Jr aged 18 of Paris Kentucky, a clerk in a Terre Haute law office, was found dead with a pistol wound in the head at a gravel pit west of Terre Haute. The suicide followed a love affair with Miss Jamison of Paris Kentucky after attending a private dance with his sister. He had behaved strangely for several days.
Branton the wife killer may have died before his victim, affecting estate settlement. Dr Arun del says the wife’s body was found tossed from the dy of her husband, suggesting Branton died first. Branton had deeded property to Miss Kennedy’s father before marriage, then Kennedy passed it to his father. The funeral of Constable Jenkins drew a large crowd. Branton’s death by self harm means his remains cannot be placed in consecrated ground, leaving the vault unused.
Lieutenant William R. Hine of the Ninth Illinois Cavalry married Miss Maud Weller in Jeffersonville Indiana after her father Postmaster Weller objected at the planned home ceremony. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. M Myers as an elopement was arranged by the couple and friends.

Cashier M J Childs vanished after a woolen mill sale while directors say funds tied to Township and Church accounts are at risk. Director William Moore confirms embezzlement allegations.
Louisville, Oct 21. J. W. Bradley aged years married Miss Kate Garland aged 20 in this city today. The groom, a prosperous hotel keeper from Ohio County, came to Louisville yesterday by a friend and proposed marriage five minutes after arriving.

Paris October 2. United States and Spanish Peace Commissions held a joint session from 2 to 4 30 p m with no definite conclusion on whether the American Commissions will assume the Cuban debt. Monday will reopen the Cuban debate as negotiations continue.
In Logan County Ohio a smallpox outbreak is confirmed by Dr. C. W. Heffner. The first case is in the Longbreak family, living about one and a half miles south of Lewiston. The father is the affected patient.
