In San Francisco on October 20, J. Franklin Brown a hypnotist died of blood poisoning traced to a cub bite months earlier. Brown attempted to subdue a cub bear with hypnosis. the animal resisted and bit his hand leading to hospitalization and eventual death after a relapse from a minor scratch.

In Dover Ohio on October 20 Prof Ralph Oster balloonist suffered a severe likely fatal fall from a forty foot drop during an ascent at a street fair in New Philadelphia two miles away. The parachute rope snapped sending Oster to the ground narrowly missing a child and causing a local panic. Oster, married and living near Mansfield, was injured.
Frankfort Ky Oct 20 State Inspector Lester reports Heinrich Steidel of Louisville made a complaint to a German Consul in Cincinnati accusing Suakeland Asylum officials of theft. Lester finds no foundation for the charges and suggests Steidel remains demented after his time as an inmate.
Colonel Milford Harm a prominent Jackson business man and uncle of Mrs Grover Cleveland is dead in Jackson Michigan on October 20. The report notes his connection to the Cleveland family and his local prominence.

J F Feeley of Schenectady New York attempted suicide at a Columbus hotel. He cut off part of his nose but then used morphine to complete his act. Found dead in his Town Street House room with a fifty three grain morphine bottle nearby. He had been in poor health and said he traveled for a broom factory. A brother in Sidney Ohio is in broom making.
In Tompkinsville Kentucky a man named Shives and his child died in a roadside fire. The man, a mover, slept in a vacant house while his wife and other sons camped nearby. The blaze, likely started by a lantern falling on straw, consumed the two bodies.
