De Wolf Hopper, famed American comedian, wed singer Lillian Glaser in Hartford after obtaining a license. He stated his age as 69 and New York City residence. Glaser, 29, from Oakland California. The Justice waived five days notice. the couple left for their honeymoon in an automobile.
News reaches Edna Wallace Hopper in Springfield that DeWolf Hopper has wed again in Hartford. The third wife congratulates him, while Hopper jokes about the bonds of matrimony. Hopper’s former wife previews a new proposal from a French Count.
Lillian Glaser widow of Dr Emil Glaser an Oakland dentist who died in the 1918 influenza epidemic married DeWolf Hopper today in Oakland. She previously sang with the San Francisco Comic Opera Company and did concert work in the East before meeting Hopper.
The second officer of the rudderless Italian freighter Ignazio Florio is washed overboard and dies as rescue attempts by the President Harding fail amid hurricane seas. The first officer is injured, all lifeboats are smashed, and a crew of thirty seven awaits relief while ships including the F S Elvin and President Harding attempt further aid. The Florio left Montreal October 4 bound for the Mediterranean after losing its rudder in the storm.
In Chicago on October 20 a federal bankruptcy filing disclosed Grace A Leathe widow of Samuel H Leathe once a St Louis realty broker held only 600 dollars of a fortune once estimated at 65 665 000. She inherited the business in 1907 and faced heavy losses and extensive litigation costs.

A twelve inch snow fall in the Youngstown area blanketed northern Trumbull County and nearby towns. Telegraph wires were downed by the storm while several inches covered Bloomfield and Cortland with trees blown onto roads and property damage reported.
Arthur R. Robinson Indianapolis attorney was appointed United States Senator from Indiana to succeed the late Samuel M. Ralston. Governor Jackson named the Republican to serve until the 1926 state election and to complete the remainder of Ralston's term ending in 1929. Robinson, 44, a former Marion County state senator and World War I officer, has a Chicago-educated legal career and a family of five.
After twenty four hours of fierce resistance bands of Druse tribesmen and local Muslims attacked French forces in Damascus. French artillery armored cars and tanks bombard insurgent quarters causing heavy damage while authorities retained key utilities and buildings. Rebels surrendered to General Sarrail under terms including a heavy fine and delivery of several thousand rifles.
Five persons were injured, one seriously, when two automobiles collided late yesterday at West Sixth street and Mt Echo road. The driver of one car was arrested for reckless driving. Injured include Mrs. Cora Hildebrand and her children Huston and Earl, plus Alma and Charles Warner. Carl Evers aided the wounded to General Hospital.
The Ohio Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Bender law which prohibits trial courts from suspending sentences and remitting fines in liquor law violation cases. The ruling came in Columbus on October 20.
The trial of George A Sawyer Herbert I Channer and Fred G McLaughlin the former Channer Saw yer brokerage partners neared the halfway point after the state rested its case following eleven trial days. Defense motions for acquittal were overruled then the defense began presenting exhibits and calling witnesses including Louis Guilforge the last witness for the state. The hearing resumed the next morning with the defense aiming to finish within days as the third week of the trial continued.
Three passengers testified at a Jacksonville court of investigation that whisky bottles flashed during the Mayport fire on the Comanche and that crewmen in lifeboats fought among themselves. Captain Curry denied unseamanlike conduct and drunkenness except for one waiter. Fire origin remains undetermined due to dense smoke.
John Edwards 21 shoots Inspector Allen Althoff 33 at Fifth and Race Streets after stealing Janser's coat and overcoat. Edwards flees with Elizabeth Andrews as bystanders chase. Althoff dies, bystander Joseph Lawer wounded, mob dispersed by detectives. Edwards captured at Van Horn alley and Mound street.
