Explosion at Extension Mine No 2 Seals 30 Deaths
In Victoria British Columbia on October 5 the Extension Mine No 2 suffered a firedamp explosion trapping 55 to 60 miners. Eight bodies recovered by rescue crews as firefighters and volunteers fought spreading flames. Rescue work limited by danger and rapid fire spread with over fifty miners engaged in efforts. The Wellington Colliery company is British owned with James Dunstair heading the group.
