Louisville March 5 1901 25 1 2 cents per pound paid for a hogshead of leaf tobacco at public auction on the tobacco breaks. The hogshead was bought by the American Tobacco Company after fierce competition. It was grown in Jessamine County by J F Lappert who raised thirteen hogsheads on eight acres. The crop sold high netting him 1613 dollars.
