In Colombo Ceylon on June 28 the United States cruiser Olympia sailed for Port Said at 4 pm with Admiral Dewey aboard. His health has improved during a quiet stay, and he ascended the ship earlier that morning. Before departure Dewey toured the auxiliary cruiser Yosemite which carries Captain Richard P. Akron businessman Jeremiah A. Long died at his home from heart trouble. A noted iron founder, he led the Akron Iron and Steel Company and the Falls River and Machine Company, which has secured large contracts to manufacture shells for the government. Born in Albany in 1837, he lived in Akron since age 20 and is survived by his wife and seven children.
Ellen C. Johnson, superintendent of the Massachusetts Women's Reformatory Prison, died suddenly in London at the Bishop of Rochester's residence where she was a guest. Officials believe heart failure from excitement reading a paper at the International Council of Women meeting. Dr. Barrows of Boston attended.
