The Kentucky Democratic Party faces a split as credentials fights threaten revolts led by Hardin delegates while Goebel and Stone factions attempt to unseat. George Wray 103, feeble but sharp, is granted a divorce from Susan E. Wray 30 by Judge Hord in Columbus Indiana. He recalls Irish birth, War of 1812 memories, cholera years, and Brown County roots. A band of gypsies tried to abduct him and steal $1,000 he carries. suspects were arrested. He is said to be very wealthy and a progenitor of many Wrays in southern Indiana.
Columbus June 22 The McLean group botched the Democratic State Convention timing clashing with Labor Day the State Fair and the G A R Encampment. Calls grow to move the dates earlier but Chairman Thomas and Secretary Wilson resist. Independent labor leaders plan a separate convention, while editor Dewitt C Jones attacks Lentz in a public letter.
The body of Ensign Monaghan killed at Saipoa arrived in Portland aboard the steamer Columbia, with full naval honors from Admiral Kautz and Philadelphia officers. British ships flew half mast in mourning, a wreath from the Porpoise crew adorned the coffin, and Portland and Spokane plans mark the funeral there.
Mr and Mrs Charles H Duhme and Moses Fowler Chase stay at the Waldorf Astoria as extradition questions loom. Attorney Willard A Mitchell says warrants may not yet be issued and will challenge proper requisition. Henry Probasco arrives from Detroit with no warrants. Chase's guardian status is questioned.
Samuel E. E. Stueve of Cincinnati files in Probate Court against Columbus Street Railway Company claiming his 100 shares issued in 1899 were sent to the company for reissuance but were lost in the mails. He seeks a hearing under a statute for reissuing lost or destroyed certificates.
Cairo dispatch reports the Khalifa defeated with heavy losses by native forces allied to the British. He has fled to the woods with a handful of followers, and his capture is imminent.
In San Francisco Police Judge Conlan's court a grapho phone presented a statement by George Frederick Trueworthy accused of murdering Landsman during a street fight. Defense argued against the device but the court admitted the testimony.
The International Printing Pressmen and Assistants Union elected officers today in Indianapolis. J. H. Bowman of Chicago was named President, with Henry Pfeil of Pittsburgh as First Vice President, D. J. McDonald of Boston as Second Vice President, John A. Burns of Syracuse as Third Vice President, and William Webb of New York as Secretary and Treasurer. Delegates to the AFL include J. H. Corcoran of Indianapolis and J. E. Hoffbauer of St. Paul.
Jos H Choate Jr son of Ambassador Choate is appointed third assistant secretary of the U S Embassy in London to replace Spencer Eddy who moves to Paris as second assistant secretary.

In Santiago de Cuba on June 2 the US garrison relocated from the old Spanish barracks to a hillside camp toward El Moro due to yellow fever. Four soldiers had died and eighteen cases plus a civilian suspect were reported. the Fifth Infantry remained the sole company present and the new camp area was thoroughly disinfected.
Detroit reports Governor Pingree delaying adoption of further evidence on the extradition question while awaiting Attorney General Oren. Detectives retain the arrest warrant for three suspects and planned actions were stalled. Dr. Niles of Oak Grove Sanitarium arrives, will testify to the Governor, while others promise startling testimony at tomorrow’s hearing.

Recruitment aims to draw from National Guard veterans trained in Southern camps, with stations set nationwide and officers directing mustering. Recruits will be enlisted individually rather than by state units, and no formal volunteer call is expected. Regulars near 30 000, plus 12 000 volunteers, may be used to replace regulars sent to the Philippines. Judge Nash visits Baltimore amid circulating odd rumor.
In Lancaster Kentucky on June 22 two rival delegations formed after a county convention dispute over the chair. Captain William Herndon and General D R Collier led competing factions each claiming the other’s votes were invalid. Governor Bradley heads Collier’s delegation while Herndon leads the opposing group.
The town of Summitville Indiana Marshal James Ice and Constable Patrick Hannon were sued for 10000 damages by Carl V Nipp administrator of the estate of Charles Barton who died in the Summitville jail after it burned following his midnight confinement. The case alleges harsh treatment and a late night lockup with sensational developments promised.
The Post-Dispatch reports at the next Grand Army of the Republic encampment in St Louis a resolution will be offered to admit navy veterans and rename the group The Grand Army and Navy of the Republic The change aims to broaden membership as the G A R nears extinction and may prompt a constitutional amendment and a committee study
In Rome a secret consistory followed a public ceremony presenting new Cardinals. The Pope announced appointments including Father Christie in Oregon, Father Denys O Connor in Toronto, and Father Cloutier in Three Rivers Quebec, with Father Rouxelle named Auxiliary Archbishop of New Orleans.

Charles Woodson aged 70 died instantly when thrown from a wild horse near Williamstown Ky after an embankment fall the accident occurred this afternoon. He landed head first breaking his neck in the incident near town.
Brest France June 22 Two fishing emacks capsized off Brest late this afternoon resulting in twelve drownings.
Admiral Dewey arrives aboard the Olympia in Colombo after a voyage from Singapore. He is greeted by local officials, receives a silver casket and tea gift, and plans to remain about a week with limited official duties due to his health. He praises Anglo American sympathy and signals no immediate trip to Kandy.
Washington reports 304 dollars added to the Dewey Home Fund today, boosting the total to 10,190 dollars. Notable contributions include 25 dollars from Representative D. B. Henderson of Iowa, 100 dollars from N. B. Ream of Chicago, 50 dollars from A. P. Gardner of Boston, and 100 dollars from General G. M. Dodge of New York.
Bridgeport Conn June 22 A representative of the Czar of Russia visited the American Ordnance Company seeking to fill an order for 100 field batteries of six guns each six and twelve pounders quick fire guns plus 1600 caissons and limbers valued about six million dollars. Company officials would not confirm or deny the submission of the order.
German Ambassador Dr. von Holleben visited the State Department in Washington and will depart for Berlin for a summer vacation mid next month. The visit is viewed as a sign of satisfactory German American affairs after informal talks. German reciprocity treaty talks extend to fall, tied to the meat exclusion bill before the Reichstag.
Four boys on a raft fashioned from a sidewalk plank in a pond. Ben Erickson, 12, drowned when the raft overturned. George Hokanson and Thomas Tierney, also about 12, were saved by Barty Larkin, the fourth boy on the raft.
