British Rescue After Ethelwold Sinks Near Port Antonio
The British steamer Ethelwold, 533 tons, owned by Mac Gregor, foundered after sending a boat with an officer and three crew to seek help. They were picked up by the Brookline of Kingston Jamaica eighteen hours later. No trace of the Ethelwold was found despite a careful search. Father Murders Son Over Beaten Horse Near Hope
John Youngman, a Bartholomew County farmer near Hope, struck his fifteen year old son Roy in the head with a cudgel. Roy, angered by a horse he was driving, beat the animal with a beech rod until unconscious. Roy died at seven this evening. The father will be brought to Columbus and placed in jail with a guard.

Volunteers Await News On Philippine Reinforcements
Nearly 5 000 troops are slated to reinforce General Otis within a week. The Twenty fourth and Twenty fifth colored regiments head to Manila, with 635 men on the Zelandia and 3 216 aboard the Sheridan and Pennsylvania. The Nineteenth Infantry can not depart until July 20, and total forces reach 9 945 including others en route. Some volunteers will return home as replacements.
