Stancell testified in Liverpool that Maybrick directed purchases of arsenic in Norfolk, with druggists Burrow and Seneca named, and that a quinine compound cordomum was used to disguise strong chemicals. The prisoner’s friends will pursue corroboration of Stancell’s evidence.

In Norfolk on June 18, a skull and bones were found in the hold of the former Spanish cruiser Reina Mercedes when a cleaner struck them in the dry dock. The skull, hair still on, was taken ashore and then by relic hunters. Officials say the bones likely belong to a Spaniard who perished with the ship at Santiago harbor. Captain Chittenden of the Merritts declined to reveal how many bodies were aboard.

The Missouri Kansas Zinc Miners Association sent a cable to Europe offering 1.09 to 5,000 tons weekly of high grade ore to European smelters to unload surplus ore. They plan to set permanent prices and have smelters pay them. If refused, ore will be exported and the association will build its own smelters with a $1,000,000 fund.
A mob of about twenty masked men dragged William Lesh from a buggy to string him up for supposed crimes but misidentified him as Dr. C M Bearge. The mob also stoned Bearge’s residence, causing window damage but no injuries as the doctor was elsewhere.
Six thousand public school teachers in Chicago oppose reappointment of E Benjamin Andrews as superintendent. The opposition argues against a single man power and cites autocratic methods with the School Board and teachers as a source of widespread discontent influencing Mayor Harrison.

In Cleveland on June 18 a gasoline explosion at 23 Wadsworth street collapses the front of Abraham Kohns home. Kohn his wife and child are hospitalized with severe burns the infant is expected to die. Mrs Kohn was cleaning clothes with gasoline when she left the vessel uncovered and the door closed. The ignition caused the blast.
Three Cottage City men Augustus W. Leighton Joseph Bernado and David Evans are believed drowned off Edgarton Bay after a gunning excursion. The revenue cutter Manning found their boat waterlogged with two coats aboard but no sign of the men.
Major Marchand reached Thoissey his birthplace this morning amid mayoral welcomes and cheering crowds. The from station to his father's home became a triumphal progress with enthusiastic public response.
