Death ends Ray Keechs Tipton speed show in 200 mile race
Ray Keech winner of the Indianapolis race and holder of the American speed record died at Altoona Speedway Tipton after a four car crash in the 200 mile Flag Day event. Cliff Woodbury injured seriously, Ernest Triplett and Bob Robinson unharmed. Keechs car overturned igniting fuel and flames, Woodbury was trapped and rescued, Keech skull fractured chest crushed and left leg severed. The race ended soon after as emergency crews attended the wreckage with 25 000 spectators stunned.

Father Drowns While Trying to Save Two Girls at Camp
Clarence Hayward a 50 year old Sarasota resident and government income tax specialist died in the Little Miami River near Tower Hill while attempting to rescue two 10 year old girls at a YMCA camp. Helen 15, dove to aid his father and the two girls, but searchers found Hayward after volunteers worked two hours. Doctors Hickerson attempted revival but the body had been under water too long. Hayward left his wife and daughter.
