A violent cyclone swept New Richmond Wisconsin demolishing the business district and destroying homes. Dozens are dead and many injured as rescuers search amid debris while volunteers and authorities coordinate aid and assess the catastrophe.
General Lawton led artillery in a clash with rebel forces as American troops for the first time met a hostile battery. Retreating companies lacking ammunition faced renewed pressure as combat continued with heavy shelling and adaptive tactics.
In a intense clash near Las Pinas General Lawton leads a bold assault against a hidden Filipino battery. Lieutenant Donovan is wounded but leads a breakout with Major Starr and others, as American ships pound the rebels and reinforcements push in.
Ex mayor John M. Good testified that he did not know of any state law banning Sunday ball when the offense occurred and that no concerted effort existed with ex Chief R S Black to resist deputies Sheets and Bailey during the July 11, 1897 arrest attempt of Springfield and Youngstown players, with no mob violence indicated.

A Buenos Aires cablegram reports the Norwegian ship Saratoga Captain Bache, cleared Pensacola March 6 for Puerto Belgrano, ashore and total wreck. Built at East Boston in 1874, 1362 tons, originally named Friederik, registered at Christiania and owned by Zernicow.
President Loubet meets with Senate and Chamber leaders to hasten a new cabinet. Poincare, initially asked to form, declines. Debates center on whether a Poincare Deschanel coalition will replace the late ministry, with arrests in relation to riots and anti Dreyfus press attacks looming over Paris.
Governor Richards ordered a state militia detachment from Buffalo to join chase of Union Pacific Express robbers. Outlaws are reported on T. K. Mountain north of Hole in the Wall country with Nebraska bloodhounds expected to reach the scene soon.
The twenty ninth annual University of Wooster commencement continues with graduates in all departments. Musical graduates include Miss Josephine Cook Lexington Ohio Miss Ethel A Lerch and Miss Pearl M Clapper Wooster. Academic seniors listed span many states and cities including Greensburg Pa Olivett Oh Wooster Ohio Liberty Ind Forest City NC Pittsburg Pa and Brownsville Ohio.
Indianapolis June 13 Train No 5 bound for Vincennes crashed with a through freight at Gosport Junction near Indianapolis. Engineer Charles A Wood of Indianapolis was badly hurt. Clerk F W Deckhut of Indianapolis died. Four passengers injured lightly. Trains met near a high bridge. A passenger engineer order mistake caused the wreck.
An end collision near Gasport Indiana on the Indianapolis and Vincennes Railroad destroyed two engines and several cars but caused no fatalities. Mail Clerk Frederick Dicutt of Indianapolis suffered three broken ribs and a severe scalp wound and may die. Other injured include BE Field of Chicago general counsel for the Monon Railroad, F M Ingles, A H Fedam, S Tick, W H Carey of Indianapolis, G B Oldham of Jamestown Ohio. The railroad loss is estimated at 40000.
US forces crossed the Zapote River near Manila as the Fourteenth Infantry, with Ninth and Twelfth regiments and a Marine detachment, crossed by land and sea. Sixty-five insurgents were found dead in trenches, many shot in the head, while eighty-five firearms were captured. Eight prisoners taken as FED troops held the bridge and pursued the retreating Filipino forces.
The June 13 Cabinet meeting was brief with the President asking each member if they had matters to raise. all replied no. Attention focused on Associated Press Manila dispatches and General Otis reports on southern Manila fighting. General Luna's reported death was regarded as favorable in dispatches.
L A Coulter of Creston Wayne County was killed when he fell under freight wheels after jumping from a moving train in Akron on June 13. The 28 year old general store proprietor had been in Cleveland to buy wedding garments and planned to marry a Delaware woman this week.
The session concluded with a three to three tie vote, leaving the decision unresolved and likely prompting further action or reconsideration by the governing body.
The Cincinnati Board of City Affairs debates an ordinance granting Cincinnati Natural Gas and Illuminating Company a franchise to lay pipes. Mr Fischer hesitates to approve without including papers from Judge Outcast, while President Nieman insists the vote must be on the ordinance as issued.
