Roosevelt campaigners press to block Senator Root as temporary chairman through a Wisconsin LaFollette alliance. Cummins and LaFollette factions refuse any coalitions, while Green of North Dakota is favored by LaFollette for temporary chair. Political maneuvering aims at forcing a Cummins vice presidential path amid New York delegate tensions.
A Wright army type aircraft fell from 200 feet at the Army aviation school grounds in College Park Maryland killing two men. A. L. Welch of Washington D C and Lt Leighton Q Hazelhurst of Macon Georgia died in the crash. Orville Wright accompanied the machine just acquired from the Wright company. The accident occurred around 1:13 this evening witnessed by a small crowd of sightseers.
Special dispatch reports that at least seven fishing villages around Kodiak Strait were destroyed by hot ash and debris from the Katmai volcano. In Fairbanks and surrounding areas supplies run short while refugees arrive with disaster tales. The Kodiac relief committee calls on mayors to fund relief for the affected fishermen and island communities.

Celtic to leave Boston within two weeks toward Guantanamo. Petrel to receive orders at Key West for a Cuban port yet to be chosen. Navy does not plan further deployments unless Cuban disorder extends beyond current limits.

Edwards of Kentucky’s Eleventh district is seated for Taft amid a split allowing both Roosevelt and Taft delegates from that district. The committee schedules further hearings and continues evaluating Kentucky contests along with others before deciding remaining seats.
J H Godman a Chicago traveling salesman was arrested in Columbus Ohio at his wife's grave where he went to kill himself. A revolver was found in his pocket. He confessed intent but became too intoxicated while trying to nerve himself with whisky.
Elmer Watt an 18 year old confesses to killing his father by poisoning the whisky to end repeated abuse. He is charged with murder in Franklin township Greensburg report. The elder Watt died May 19 and coroner investigated after whisky analysis and police traced the poison source. Watt cited family privations and abuse as motive.
Akron officials consider a curfew preventing children under 16 from being on streets after 9 pm following numerous arrests of delinquent young girls. The measure aims to curb influence from older men and reduce temptations and incidents at night.
