In Havana harbor the Rhode Island and Washington anchor while Cuba seeks US patience. Secretary Knox restates nonintervention as Speaker Ferrarra of Cuba presents the island’s view. He urges Cuba to quell the revolt, US ships provide safety for foreigners, and no intervention is planned.
A police sweep in Manhattan nabbed 35 Greco Italian German section waiters alleged to plan brick throwing at the Waldorf Astoria during a mayoral dinner. No bricks were thrown and no injuries reported as officers cleared the crowd. at Mougin's restaurant a secondary attempt by new workers ended with brick throws but no damage.
A New York trade school for women will open on October 16 under Thomas J. Buckley of the Master Builders' association. Thirty six have enrolled for the two year course at Winfield Station, L I. The program focuses on managerial and teaching roles in plumbing carpentry and bricklaying, with Edward L. Middleton directing six instructors.

In Villisca Iowa a killer slaughters the Moore family four children and two guest girls along with two others, total eight victims. Authorities find a bloody ax and bloodstains but no clew to the assailant as townsfolk and militia search the area.
A former palace servant named William Woolley breached Marlborough House in London and slept in a royal room before being discovered. Guards turned him over to police. he will be sent back to Norwich asylum as a precaution.
In Columbus on June 10 M. M. Ford of Delphos a Democrat was chosen to fill the vacancy on the state pharmacy board caused by the resignation of Charles T. Barman. Barman has been appointed drug inspector in the state dairy and food department.
Mary Louisa Irwin founder of the Home for Incurables in Walnut Hills Cincinnati sues Dr John C Kilgour administrator of Emma Kilgour estate in Dearborn county Indiana. She charges the will directed diamonds and jewelry be sold to endow a hospital bed and seeks the proceeds. Kilgour allegedly withheld the appraised 472 dollars and the broader 1000 dollar market value while not executing the will. The suit asserts breach of the will provisions and seeks compliance and funds for the institution.
Oakleigh Thorne former president of the Trust Company of America and Osmund Phillips financial editor of The New York Times testified at the resumption of the government suit against the steel company. Phillips described how a October 23 1907 statement appeared in print and Perkins influenced its release amid a Morgan Cortelyou conference.
In a New York dispatch Roosevelt accuses Taft backers of seating fraudulent delegates at the Republican national convention, stating the fight centers on the people’s right to rule and a push for political and social justice.
