The headless body of a young woman about 20 was found in a secluded area two miles from Dowell Massachusetts. The body was discovered near Lethe farm, with William Baker of Ipsford nearby as investigators searched for the missing head.

Williams burg Kentucky June 9 Marshal Wilder of Corbin shot and instantly killed Andrew Cox who resisted arrest Cox had just shot a man named Branam during a feud over an old grudge Branam was wounded in the neck but will recover Cox, a Knox County resident, was described as a desperate character when drinking Wilder was probably fatally wounded by Cox in the exchange
Gloucester Mass June 9 Captain Howard Blackburn in his twenty five foot sloop Great Republic began a second trans Atlantic voyage with Lisbon as destination expecting about forty five days. The voyage follows a 1899 trip to Dublin that lasted sixty one days amid cheers and salutes from a large crowd.
Miss Brockmann and Arnold Arnold plan to wed next Wednesday at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church. Father C E B Brockmann says he will not allow the marriage in his house and will not interfere if the couple marries elsewhere. The couple, both of legal age, pursue a committed union amid family opposition and strong support from friends.
Major W H Daly, Surgeon General on Lieutenant General Miles staff in Puerto Rico, committed suicide at his home. He died from a gunshot wound to the temple, found by housekeeper Miss Mary Short in the bathroom. Daly, 59, renowned in medical circles and noted for reports on embalmed beef in the Cuban War era, left no immediate family.
Lt Gen Miles said he was not surprised by Dr Daly s death by his own action citing the doctor s recent personal bereavement and a severe grip attack last winter. He valued Daly highly and they were intimate friends.
In Kenosha Zion invaded the city and established a Christian Catholic Church with 116 members amid pomp and ceremony. Zion Guards flooded Kenosha with literature as 300 people gathered for Elder Gideon Hammond’s impassioned appeal praising Zion and Dowie. Several influential locals joined Dowie and reportedly shifted considerable property to him.
Kansas City, June 9 Lulu Prince Kennedy, facing trial for murdering her husband, recovered from Saturday’s strain and said she would likely attend court on Monday. Her brother William Prince, charged with conspiring in the killing, fainted last night and a doctor was summoned.
Toledo attorney John P Delphey faces a striking case as Miss Marie Lent sues to stop his harassment and love letters. He admits they met and says their exchanges were invited and welcomed, while denying stalking or improper visits. The suit follows a court warning after Lent reported repeated interruptions, with Delphey alleging external interference and publicity motive.
Special Despatch to Commercial Tribune reports Oliver Crosier 22, Mike Shay and Emil Bergdorf crossed Summit Lake early morning. Bergdorf rocks boat causing it to capsize. Bergdorf grapples Shay. all three struggle. Shay rescued after two hours. Crosier and Bergdorf bodies recovered later. Crosier age 22, Bergdorf age unknown.
An American, Constantin, was robbed while asleep on a railway car between Modane and St Michel in France. Three fellow travelers robbed him and he reportedly leaped into the river to escape, with the incident described in disjointed reporting.
In Galena Missouri June 9 a preliminary hearing for Mrs John Stallion James Crabtree and his sons Frank and Charles Crabtree on charges of murdering sixteen year old Alice Stallion is held in a grove with 2000 local spectators. Officials plan to exhume the body to test a theory the assault by the Crabtrees sparked the killing.
Dayton O June 9 Cigar and drug stores were generally closed in the city today as agitation against Sunday labor by union clerks and other organizations grew. Twenty dealers arrested last Sunday for violating Sunday labor laws will have cases heard Tuesday in Police Court. So far saloon keepers have not been molested.
Kilbourne followers report distrust of John R. McLean despite pledges. Delegates in eight counties favored Kilbourne, with 158 pledged. Monroe and Coshocton shifts, plus Welty’s possible candidacy, stir tension as Kilbourneites doubt McLean’s usefulness.
In Dayton Ohio on June 9, Joe Dowling the Democratic faction leader and Galen C Wise once long at odds have reconciled and planned joint action. Wise, veteran editor and shrewd political operative, and Dowling, influential in county elections, had been estranged since 1891 but now renew collaboration to impact upcoming campaigns and city politics.
