Prof Goldwin Smith a renowned educator and writer died at the Grange in Toronto after a January fall that fractured his thigh bone. Born August 12 1823 in Reading England he studied at Eton and Oxford and was a fellow of Oxford at 24. He held a legal bar but did not practice and served as a professor until 1866.
