In the London local government bill report stage the amendment by Leon ard Henry Courtney declares women eligible to elect as Aldermen and Councillors. The vote 196 to 161 broke party lines with Conservatives largely opposing and Liberals plus Unionists supporting.
Thirty eight men were sworn in and armed with Winchester rifles to guard tollgates on three turnpikes in Mayesville Kentucky. They were instructed to protect the gates at all hazards. The tollgate owners have an understanding with Governor Bradley to send militia into the county if adequate protection cannot be provided.
At a June 6 meeting in Muncie Indiana Elks organize Grand Lodge for Indiana with Marion chosen for the first 1900 meeting. Grand Exalted Ruler John Galvin cautioned on secret grip use and said Indiana shows eleven new lodges this year, countrywide gain seventy three, and total membership up nine hundred. District Deputy Armstrong praised. bands joined the carnival events and a social for 500 was held with Judge Ballard presiding.

David Rider formerly of Glendale and son of farmer John Rider was abducted from Mrs. Lucy Bristow Thompson's room and tarred and feathered by a mob of about fifty. A. D. Thompson, suing for divorce, warned Rider to stay away, then he returned and was attacked. Rider was held at Elizabethtown to testify.
London reports at Nelifield Cemetery near Aberdeen reveal mass cremation and concealment of burials. In one trench investigators found burned coffins and over 400 plates. another trench uncovered missing bodies dumped without coffins.
United States Consul General L. W. Osborne in Apia repudiates a London Truth letter harshly criticizing Chief Justice Chambers and British officials. The article notes his signature has been confused with Lloyd Osbourne, once named by Churchill as United States Vice Consul at Apia, who did not serve in that role.

Report from Honolulu says Lunailo the barefoot King of Hawaii had his tomb opened in San Francisco style but the remains were gone and only fragments of grave clothes remained in the metal casket. Locals suspect native theft for a heathen grave in the mountains after a storm at burial time. Lunailo, elected 1873, died of consumption thirteen months later. He left his fortune to aid aged Hawaiians via his will opened in 1881.
