Frank Meeker of Cleveland forfeits a $33,000 inheritance from his uncle Rufus C. Meeker after a codicil barred him for as a result of his criminal life. The estate totals $100,000 with the remainder going to nieces and nephews. Meeker has a felony record and recently served time for burglary in Ohio.
Two men representing the Marconi Telegraph company bought a large 160 acre tract at Port Monmouth New Jersey to use as a testing ground and experimental station for wireless research. The site is a mile long and 1000 feet wide on Raritan Bay. The nearest Marconi testing station now is in Boston.
New York police chase ends with Zelig wounded in Chinatown gun battle. Big Jack Zelig, head of the Kid Twist gang, survives a rear assault as Torti is captured and three prisoners are sent to the criminal courts building amid detectives and a high speed convoy.
On the anniversary of King George V's birth President Taft sent a congratulatory message from the United States government and people. He wished the king personal health happiness and prosperity for the empire he rules.
A June 3 conflagration in Stamboul, Constantinople, started by a crazed Turkish fanatic, razed large parts of the historic city. More than 100,000 people were left homeless as tens of thousands fled the danger zone. The loss is estimated in the millions, with reconstruction years ahead. The exact culprit fled after igniting the blaze.
Cleveland June 3 A Cleveland sermon by Rev Dr W W Bustard member of John D Rockefeller's Euclid Avenue Baptist Church offered simple "don'ts" for wives. He urged marry for love not livelihood and warned against overdressing or underdressing and nagging while praising a home as a queenly domain and motherhood to great men as a crown.
Washington, June 3. Secretary MacVeagh ordered a sweeping probe into Irish and Scotch linen imports after a conference with Assistant Secretary Curtis, Collector Loeb of New York, and John J. Wilkie. The treasury alleges extensive frauds by undervaluation, with at least $18,000 lost to the government by one small firm, likely repeating elsewhere.
An unidentified man forced into the bedroom of 80 year old Elizabeth Phillips at 547 West Seventh Avenue. He choked her into unconsciousness, then fired as two lodgers Thornton and Winger roused. Patrolmen and detectives hunted the suspect after the exodus.
An 11-year-old boy, John Hoffmyer, died after being found dead in front of his home. Post-mortem findings left officials puzzled as five different causes were initially offered including a bottle strike, a bat, a live electric wire, a car collision, and heart disease. Police search for five companions who reportedly played with him before the death.
Captain Arthur Rostron of the Carpathia, which brought Titanic survivors to port, was presented with a $10000 draft from New York citizens. He thanked his crew and said honors should reflect the vessel, not personal glory, and that his sorrow over others’ sufferings weighed on him.

Veal chops eaten yesterday morning caused the death today of John Powell, an aged state house employee. Three Powell relatives also ate the meat and are in dangerous condition. Local officials investigate the outbreak and warn of possible foodborne illness.
Thomas E. Watson was arrested at his home in Thomson Georgia on a federal warrant charging him with sending obscene matter through the mails. He asked for a trial today but US District Attorney Ackerman declined. The arrest stems from a magazine article said to reflect on the Catholic religion.
