In Chicago on June 2 Dr Cleminson was brought before Municipal Judge Bruggemeyer for a preliminary hearing in the murder case of his wife. The hearing was continued to June 9 after the defense requested an immediate trial. Police Captain Kane cited statements by Dr Cleminson about marital tensions and alleged arrangements to live apart. Morphine was reportedly found to have caused Mrs Cleminson’s death according to a chemical analysis, though the formal report remains pending. The husband claimed chloroform was the killer and that robbers administered the drug to her.

Relatives Hold Murder Theory in Binkley Death
Dr. John T. Binkley of Evansville Indiana aged 82 was found dead in a Wellington hotel room in Chicago. He was shot in the face and a revolver lay on the bed.
