In Cincinnati and other cities thousands celebrated the sixth Sahara era with lively parties and legal restraint. No arrests reported in New York. injuries included four at midnight incidents in Cincinnati with four people wounded from bullets and a glass injury. Police searched for the assailant in one case as crowds gathered at hotels and roadhouses.
William Jackson, 33, of 743 Delhi avenue, died when his car collided with a War Sky avenue street car at the east end of the Eighth Street viaduct. The crash raised the 1924 automobile death toll in Hamilton County to 103, 34 fewer than last year. The motorman William Conley reported Jackson was on the wrong side of the street on the tracks and did not see the oncoming car. Jackson and his brother in law Red Hessler were taken to St Mary’s Hospital where doctors deemed him dead on arrival with a fractured skull and facial injuries.
Congressman Frank D. Scott testified in his divorce case that Mrs. Scott used coded telephone and written signals to arrange meetings with a hotel cashier. He described aiding her in dressing for a dinner with a Illinois congressman and his wife in the same building.
Oslo, Jan 1 Christiania the capital of Norway for 300 years has reverted to the old name Oslo. The change occurred last night and the city will be known as Oslo for about 600 years prior to 1624 when the name Christiania was adopted.

C W Latimer former major league baseball player was found guilty of second degree murder in the shooting death of Charles E Mackrodt former Pennsylvania Railroad Police lieutenant. The jury deliberated three hours before returning a verdict and Latimer was sentenced to life imprisonment. Latimer had played for the Pirates and other clubs before joining the railroad police where a quarrel with Mackrodt led to the fatal shooting.
London on December 31 shows hotels and restaurants full with champagne as New Year celebrations adopt American fashion. Despite ongoing trend, London crowds remain quieter than New York, with locals less inclined to horn blowing or street gatherings.

Harry J. Colwell, 20 year veteran engineer for the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Dr Thomas Chrowder Chamberlin of Chicago dean of American geologists was awarded a gold medal for scientific contributions. The honor came from the Society of Economic Geologists during the Geological Society of America annual meeting in Ithaca New York where he is recovering from a hip fracture at City Hospital. Prof Stuart Well er of the University of Chicago presented the award.
