Prominent figure Colonel James E Pepper died in a New York hotel after a long career in law and business. Authorities said no immediate foul play is suspected and plans for funeral arrangements were pending.
Special Dispatch reports Colonel James E Pepper, famed Kentucky distiller and turfman, died at the Waldorf Astoria in New York after a fall and heart and lung illness. His wife is ill. coroner finds no foul play. Pepper’s body to be sent to Lexington for Thursday funeral.
Paris reports that England and France are aligning against Germany through informal military and diplomatic links. No official notes or drafts exist, but cross channel military talks and French maneuvers involvement indicate deepening cooperation.
Special Dispatch reports that in February the Interstate Commerce Commission will begin an investigation of Ohio coal production and its relations to railroads under the Gillespie resolution. The inquiry will seek evidence that railroads own stock in Ohio coal mines.
