Atkinson admits using notes as fictitious assets in bank
In Chicago on December 22 a bankruptcy referee continued the probe into the Lincoln Bank of Morton Park owned by Willi J. Atkinson. Atkinson testified that he used blank notes signed by others and misrepresented them as assets, with liabilities listed at 123000. Several witnesses described loans and forged notes, while investigators sought the mysterious Miss L Armstrong linked to the notes.

L B Hicks, a miner entombed under sixty feet of debris in the Edison Electric Power tunnel collapse on December 7, was rescued at 11:25 PM. rescuers drilled a passage for food, gave him milk and tobacco, and a phonograph to ease his isolation as crowds celebrated the successful rescue.

Death ends the career of Rev Dr R S Rust vice president of Union Central Life Insurance at his residence 623 West Fourth last night aged 92 after a heavy cold and complications. Born 1812 in Massachusetts he studied at Andover and Wesleyan then served as New Hampshire state school commissioner before moving to Cincinnati in 1863 leading Cincinnati Wesleyan College and later joining Union Central Insurance. He is survived by two sons Rev Dr R H Rust and Charles H Rust. Funeral plans not yet announced.
