Republican leaders seek united party with a reformed delegation plan

The Republican National Committee votes 35 to 14 to avoid a national convention next year. A subcommittee will propose a mixed plan giving four delegates at large per state and one per district with additional delegates by district vote. A referendum by state conventions will decide the plan for 1916.

Thief Steals Third Auto as He Heads Toward Cleveland

Special to Commercial Tribune from Cleveland police report a car thief speeding from Canton toward Cleveland in a third stolen vehicle. The prior two cars, owned by R. C. Jamison and W. A. Wright, were recovered while the thief, moving through Akron and Cuyahoga Falls, is believed to have taken a car owned by Ralph Hedden en route.

Forty Die In Vulcan Mine Explosion At Newcastle

Special Dispatch reports a coal dust explosion at the Vulcan mine of Rocky Mountain Fuel Co in Newcastle Colorado killing forty men. Two miners were rescued as underground fires raged and body recovery continued. Father J P Carrigan rushed to aid victims amid rescue. The mine, about a year old, had modern safety systems. strike activity by United Mine Workers of America is noted.

Fire Sweeps Kenton County Town Threatening Loss

A two hour blaze in Independence Kenton County Kentucky endangered the village. The fire started in West P Bagby store and spread to Osborn Hotel and adjacent buildings. Residents fled as a bucket brigade battled for control with cistern water and roof top efforts. The Odd Fellows Hall and Temple narrowly survived as Mrs Fleming’s home is noted in the continuing report.

Father and kin testify to Hans Schmidt's long insanity in trial

The defense witnesses including Hans Schmidt's father sister and a boyhood friend testified he has been crazy for years. They described a family pattern of suicide and religious mania while Rev Father Markert of Techny IL said Schmidt seemed of infirm mind as the murder trial continues.

Suspension granted for inmate before birth of child

Governor Cox ordered a temporary suspension of sentence for Mrs Frances Sloppy of Paulding County. The trafficking in girls case will pause until her baby is born and can live independently, after which she will return to the State Penitentiary. The indeterminate sentence continues.

Five Bodies Found in Ruins of Salvation Army Hotel

Five bodies were recovered as rescuers continued work at the Salvation Army Workingmen's Home fire. Ten lodgers remain missing while officials probe cause and safety failures after the West End blaze trapped residents in crowded rooms.
