Geist disappeared October 8 and was found in a canal near his factory two days later Mercer says he killed and robbed Geist but that the death was unintentional Mercer states he obtained 60 dollars a watch and some jewelry but threw the watch into the canal after disposing of the body Insurance totaling over 30000 dollars is being held up pending the death determination Parkersburg railroad detective Earl T Lee arrested Mercer and will claim 2000 in rewards.
Dr Stewart Paton, Princeton psychiatrist and Carnegie trustee, warns football causes severe mental and physical strain on players. He cites the current intercollegiate controversy and a Wesleyan student conference proposing limits, graduate coaches, and less coach control as step toward reform.

Cherokee Iowa December 7 Edward Flickinger 18 son of farmer near Washta accuses Gertrude Weaver a country schoolteacher of shooting Morris Hardy. Flickinger says they planned to kill a rival for Weaver’s hand. he is jailed on 10000 bond. Officials question the confession, noting a three‑cornered love affair.
