Major W. W. Youngson of Cincinnati returned from El Reno Oklahoma where the land drawing occurred between July 10 and August 1. He describes the crowded camps with tents and lively street markets as thousands watched the two district drawing proceed under formal supervision.
Pittsburgh news reports the Amalgamated Association's general strike order against United States Steel Corporation after August 10. The call aims to mobilize over 100000 idle workers across mills including Carnegie Steel, Homestead, Duquesne, Braddock, and National Tube, National Steel, and Federal Steel plants. President Shaffer warns of widespread loss and seeks unity to defend labor rights.
Chicago August 6 The Evening Journal reports Vice President Roosevelt and Governor Yates chatted at the Auditorium. Roosevelt claimed he held the Republican presidential nomination in his pocket, thanks to McKinley and Hanna. The piece also notes talk of Richard Yates as VP in 1904 and speculation on William R. Hearst for the Democratic ticket with promoter Wood Merrill in Kansas City and plans to push Hearst’s candidacy in various political circles.
Tampa Florida August six twelve more strikers among subleaders were deported this afternoon and tonight. Some held meetings during the day and conferred with lawyers but no one would take the case. New committees were appointed with five members each to replace any taken away. A proclamation signed The People of Tampa urged anarchists to leave and warned manufacturers the movement is in the community interest.
The Louisville will probate reveals an estate valued over 300 000 dollars. Public bequests include 5000 to the Foreign Board of Missions of the Southern Baptist Convention in Richmond Virginia 5000 to the Home Board in Atlanta Georgia 5000 to the Board of General Association of Kentucky in Louisville and 500 to the Ministers' Aid Society.

Columbus dispatch reports Dr Morrel Mackenzie blamed for giving a false cancer diagnosis to gain a knighthood for Queen Victoria's son. The piece cites Dr Clarence Maris and alleges ostracism by English physicians, financial ruin, and a broken heart as the cost of reputation ruin and royal scheming.
Michael Shone 47 was found dead in a haymow on Jacob Rinehart’s farm near Hamilton Ohio. Authorities report no marks of violence and doubt self harm though an overdose of laudanum is only conjecture. Shone was described as cheerful and temperate with no known cause of death.

C J Currier of Evanston a mansion owner worth about a half million dollars has begun selling fruits and vegetables in Chicago He was arrested for lacking a license and a crowd of Evanston grocers later pressured police He paid 12 20 for a three month license and resumed business
Marlain Texas reports Porter Sawyer aged 18 shot and killed his father after anger over whipping a horse. He fled, collapsed from heat while attempting to escape, and died. Father and son were buried in the same grave.
Helena Montana August 6 State Treasurer A H Barrett today received fifty thousand two hundred twenty one dollars in inheritance tax on the estate of the late Marcus Daly The total tax from the estate was eighty three thousand seven hundred two dollars with sixty per cent allocated to the state and the remainder to the counties.
In Canton Georgia special court session under Judge Gober and three militia companies tries Raymond Ross a Black man accused of assaulting Mrs. Miller. He is convicted and sentenced to be hanged August 27. Ross is returned to Atlanta Jail for safekeeping as Governor Candler defends heavy militia costs to prevent lynching and ensure law.
A Lexington union meeting voted to have all members and supporters walk out in solidarity with yesterday's street car motormen and conductors strike. The group approved a resolution urging immediate action with chants of We will walk as orders were issued to begin now.
In Easton Pa August 6 the Central Labor Union passed a resolution denouncing Andrew Carnegie as a foe to labor and protesting the school board accepting 68000 dollars from him for a library program.
Visitors flooded El Reno as trains carried crowds in crowded freight and cattle cars. A city of canvas sprang up with cots rented up to fifty cents, while unlicensed gambling thrived until a citizens raid razed the midway. Thousands lined for mail, and many waited days for trains after chaotic registration.
In Taylorsville Kentucky the crowd gathered as Auctioneer Crabb sold Sy Lewis a colored man for two dollars. The buyer was Arch Hays a young farmer from a nearby town. Lewis was sentenced to nine months servitude after being convicted of vagrancy at the last term of Circuit Court.
