An unidentified man attempting to rob Moses H. Ro senthal pawn shop in Philadelphia was shot and seriously wounded by a policeman after a burglar alarm. The officers were praised by General Smedley Butler who asked one shooter if he had military training and learned it was his first and only shot.
The Capitol Theater Building at Seventh and Vine streets was sold for about $500 000 to Ben L Heidingsfeld and I Libsen representing the Cincinnati Capitol Theater Company. The Ascher Brothers sold the property which includes four storerooms and a 100 by 134 foot frontage with a 37 year lease to the new owners at annual rent around $75 000.
Federal Judge Mack halted the suit to force Lillian Gish to work only for Charles H. Duell's company. The witness testimony stopped, the suit was dismissed, and grand jury proceedings were ordered against Duell for perjury. Duell was held on bail at 10000 on perjury charges and released to his brother. Buckner said charges would be presented next week. The judge called the conduct a flagrant breach of trust and outright perjury.
Engineers from Westinghouse and Western Electric told city officials that the loop terminus at Canal and Walnut should extend down Walnut Street below Fourth, loop via elevated trestle to Second Street, then to Third and back to Walnut. In Paducah Kentucky on April 2 the body of 55 year old Charles Waldrop a tobacco grower and land owner was found in Clark's River with a rope wound about his waist and tied to a tree on the river bank. Mrs Waldrop found tracks leading to the river and retrieved the body.
In Rome the Italian Chamber of Deputies fought as Deputy Viola accused the government of massing Black Shirts to intimidate voters in Caserta. Bottai challenged Viola to a duel while Farinacci and others tried to separate the fighters. Meanwhile in the Senate Mussolini requested postponement of the War Minister di Giorgio reform vote to allow a broader defense study.
International Machine Tool Corp president B Iles told the Bankers Association for Foreign Trade that American loans to Germany aid a rival and undermine U S manufacturers. He cited 1924 figures showing over 1.2 billion dollars lent to foreign nations with large portions used for refunds, urging bankers to consider national impact.
