At about three in the morning two men in a Ford truck attempted to blow the First National Bank of Fairfield. They entered town, roamed the lobby, set charges with nitroglycerin in the safe, and escaped after a muffled explosion. Sheriff Martine pursued, recovering the car tracks and arresting two men in Sweetgrass named Harry.

W. Somerset Maugham wrote the first original screen story for The Ordeal a Paramount picture starring Agnes Ayres Clarence Burton Conrad Nagel Edward Sutherland Adele Farrington Lloyd Whitlock Edna Murphy and Claire DuBrey. The author spent three months at the Lasky studio refining the approach before filming. He then set off on a four year world tour and was last heard from in the Malay Peninsula jungles.
