World's Biggest Flying Camp Named for Montana Man
In 1911 Lieutenant G. E. B. M. Kelly sacrificed his life at the San Antonio aviation field, now Camp Kelly, the world’s largest flying camp. Kelly, a Montanan and war aviator, chose to crash his plane rather than endanger tents with soldiers, earning a monumental memorial in the air training center. Quarters for 40,000 airmen are planned at Kelly Field as practice and display unfold.
