State Bank of Williams to Open November 1
Interior work on the new bank building at Williams nears completion. The bank, First State Bank of Williams, will begin operations November 1. Board includes Col. James T. Stanford president, P. Kelly, H. L. Barber, and H. K. Richard cashier. Stanford heads Conrad Banking Co. and Walter Montana Land & Water Co. Richard is former assistant cashier at Valier National. The bank aims to serve a rich agricultural area and become a leading state bank.

Campaign Starts for Liberty Bonds in Teton County
County chairman reports Teton County must raise 535000 for the second Liberty Loan. Chateau citizens aim at 100000 with banks and firms pledging big subscriptions. At a courthouse meeting, Burlingame and Stephenson spoke as 47000 in bonds were sold. ladies committees mobilize across communities to reach the full apportionment.

Parent teachers meet at high school to aid council curfew plan
The Parent-Teachers Association met at the high school last Thursday evening. A committee was appointed to approach the council about a curfew for Chateau. The meeting urged residents to donate mittens, overshoes, and clothing to the public school for needy children. The high school Red Cross Auxiliary collects old magazines for the front and offers to dispatch workers to homes so mothers may join Red Cross sewing rooms. If a mother cannot leave her children, a girl can stay with them by calling the high school.

Colin N Ward Dies After Brief Illness in Chateau
Colin N Ward former county surveyor of Teton county died at Chateau hospital last Tuesday morning after a short pneumonia illness. His remains were taken to Great Falls for funeral services at 9:30 Thursday at W. H. George Undertaking chapel and a 10 o clock requiem Mass at St. Ann's cathedral. Interment followed in Calvary cemetery. He was born July 11 1887 in Michigan and moved to Montana as a boy, later serving as chief in the county surveyor office in Chateau. He married Viola Ellstrom in 1914 and had two sons Jack Marlin and Carroll Meredith. He is survived by his wife sons his parents at Fort Benton and two brothers and two sisters.

State Land Loans Grow with Farm Lending Rise
Sidney Miller reports October 4 funds in common school and other state land funds totaling 1 666 455 91 dollars. September activities of the state board of land commissioners show total investments of 474 493 80 dollars, including 47 190 dollars in farm loans. Since lending began there have been 204 840 dollars loaned to 86 borrowers, with 85 loan applications currently pending totaling about 250 000 dollars. Over the last ninety days loan activity and applications have steadily increased, August saw 10 loans for 25 000 dollars, while September loans nearly doubled that.
