Democratic candidates for governor US senate representative state auditor attorney general lieutenant governor and schools superintendent will speak at a Chateau banquet Saturday night hosted by the Teton County Democratic central committee. Bulldogs to Host Chinook in season opener Friday

Choteau Bulldogs meet Chinook Sugarbeeters on the Choteau field Friday night in the first north central conference tilt since Chinook joined. Both squads are inexperienced after last year’s losses. The 8 pm game under lights starts the new season as coach Howard Ruegamer cultivates a developing squad despite recent setbacks.

Annual Music Institute Set At School on Wednesday

The Teton County Music Institute will be held at Chateau grade school next Wednesday October 6 starting at 9 a m. About 50 administrators teachers and rural staff will attend with Ronald W Cook supervising and delivering the program at 9 30 a m. He will cover classroom procedure theory equipment notation rhythmic activities and teaching recommendations for elementary music.

Wesley Cherry Suffers Amputation From Power Saw Accident

Sickness and accidents affect local residents. Wesley Cherry a Chateau building contractor lost two fingers when a power saw severed two fingers on his left hand last Saturday in his shop near the Cherry apartments. Smoot Rowley of Bynum is seriously ill in a Great Falls hospital after an internal hemorrhage. Mrs. Charles Parkett of Bynum has a heart attack and is hospitalized in Great Falls. Guy Newman of Bynum fell from a ladder injuring his body. John Becker of Bynum hurt his hand in a hay rake accident.

Draft Registration Reaches 487 in Teton County

Total peacetime draft registrations reach 487 in Teton County with 134 subject to call and the rest deferable. Most 18 to 25 year olds registered though late signups continue. Those turning 18 in the next year urged to register. some can be deferred for marriage dependents or work. Local board will classify after questionnaires are checked. classifications range 1-A to 5-A. Physical checks required before possible induction. inductees face 21 months duty under current plans.

Lutheran Rally Draws 18 Members at Con rad Church

The Lutheran brotherhoods of the Great Falls circuit held their annual fall rally at the Pondera Valley Lutheran church in Conrad with a large attendance and a fine program. Rev. Charles Johnson of Minneapolis delivered the principal address. Officers for 1948 49 were President Irwin Erickson Conrad, Vice President Oliver Thorvilson Great Falls, Secretary Oscar Mehl Dutton, and Treasurer Elmer Erickson Choteau. Attendees from the Choteau Dutton parish included 18 named members.

Legion Ladies Open Season With First Meet

The Legion Ladies held their first meeting after summer recess at the Legion hall on Monday September 13. New officers were installed with Mrs. Jay Robinson presiding. The program included reports on the state convention, two piano solos by Flora Eileen Graham, three vocal solos by Vernon Alf, with Miss Graham as accompanist for two numbers. Lunch followed served by six hostesses.

Mayor Hentges to resign as Choteau mayor relocate to Colorado

John Hentges will resign as mayor of Choteau after 34 years and move his residence to Colorado Springs. Mrs. Hentges sold their Choteau home to Paul Kropp. The couple will relocate around Oct 15 to join their son Walter and family in Colorado.

Wool Growers Approve Coyote Control Plan at Chateau

Teton county woolgrowers unanimously approved continuation of a coyote control program for the coming year at a Chateau courthouse meeting. Paul Kropp was elected president with Hugh Robinson vice president Raymond Kelly secretary and Bryan Corbett treasurer. An aerial hunting budget of 400 was set and Clair Wessel will live in Chateau year round to trap coyotes. Wessel, formerly a Cascade county trapper, will be paid seven months by the state and the rest by the county. The state operates 25 1080 poison stations statewide, with one bait station in Teton opening late next month. Volunteers donated horses for trapping from Pendroy Otto Swanson and L A Schrock.

Residents offer reward after dog poisonings

Over six pets died this week from hamburger meat poisonings in Choteau prompting a $200 reward for information. Sheriff says culprits face stiff penalties including fines and jail time. Pet owners and the community seek the culprit through the Choteau Acantha.

Henry P. Smi Conrad Farme Dies at 59 in NL

Henry P. Smith, 59, longtime resident of a ranch homestead in NL, died Tuesday. Born in burg, he was the son of Conrad Smith and a local farmer. Survived by relatives including Charles Simms, Mrs. George Lederer, and several nieces.

Delegate's Wife Reports on Republican Convention at Philadelphia

Mrs Paul Kropp described the GOP national convention in Philadelphia telling of Deweys ovation and Hoover's regard, critiquing Claire Booth Luce, meeting wives of Warren Dewey Vandenberg Taft, and touring Valley Forge and Independence Hall.
