State Board Reduces Hail Insurance Levy to 40 Cents
The state board of equalization cut the hail insurance levy from 60 to 40 cents an acre after farmers complained of poor crops. No other schedules were changed, and banks will pay on 65 percent assessed valuation. Previously set increases on telephone lines were kept.

Seventy eight men chosen for county draft duty to Camp Lewis
A list of seventy eight men, 40 percent of the county quota, is set to report at Chateau for military duty and enroute to Camp Lewis between October 3 and 6. Alternates will replace any who fail to report. Names span multiple towns including Cut Bank, Conrad, Brady, Dupuyer, Kalispell, and Power, with addresses across Montana and neighboring states.

Teton County Honors Soldiers Before Train Farewell
Teton County Montana honored its National Army recruits headed for American Lake Washington. 160 men gathered in Choteau Fairfield and Conrad with bands a banquet and farewell parade. Several absentees and alternates noted as trains carried the group to Power and thence to Camp Dodge Camp Grant and Camp Dodge assignments listed.

Champion Wheat Grower from Farmington Threshed 50 Bushels Per Acre
W. S. Murdock, County Agent, reports L. G. Torkelson of Farmington harvested a 10.4 acre Kharkev winter wheat patch yielding just over 500 bushels, about 50 bushels per acre, with No. 1 grade. Seeded Sept 1 1916 from Moccasin stock, fallowed land, partial sub irrigation, with 300 bushels sold at $3.00 per bushel and 200 to be resown. Better seed and summer fallowing cited as key.
