Banquet and Dance Planned for Third Teton County Contingent

Arrangements are under way for a banquet and dance next Saturday in Chateau to honor 78 men of the third contingent from Teton county entering the national army. They depart Sunday by special train to Camp Lewis American Lake Washington, met by other county crews. Committees formed by Chateau businessmen will organize the entertainment at the courthouse, with a turkey feast, a Methodist church run, and a band providing music for the banquet and Sunday send off.

The Musical Arts Quartet, coached by Elias Day, presents a four part singing program for the lyceum audience. The group, renowned on lyceum and chautauqua circuits, offers operatic arias folk songs and humorous readings with unique harmony and vivid timbre.

Accident Fatality Near Choteau Involves Manix Overland

An accident along Bynum road near the Choteau creamery killed Arthur Daniel Fisher and injured him after Thos Manix of Dupuyer failed to see a car on the road. The coroner's inquest found Manix at fault for careless driving. Fisher, 26, was born in Fergus North Dakota and married Cecile Horine in 1916. Manix was jailed on involuntary manslaughter charges with bail set at $2000.

Women’s Club notes Red Cross program and library drive

Regular Women’s Club meeting at the Royal theater October 6 outlines a varied Red Cross program. A social gathering at E. E. Crawford’s last Saturday featured knitting for the Red Cross and the next social is planned at James Eckford’s on October 20. The club reports a thriving library with 697 books, 676 donated and 21 purchased for children, plus extensive literary works and reference titles. The library serves high school reference use, plans evening hours in winter, and notes growing card use and circulation.

Farmington groups schedule meetings and veterans dance success

The Farmington A.S.of BE and Woman's Auxiliary No 66 plan a meeting at Farmington school on October th at 2 o'clock with refreshments. The Red Cross dance at the Milwaukee depot drew a large crowd, raising about $200 for the treasury as Mayor Eckford and speakers praised railway service and Red Cross work.

High School Notes Highlight Local School Activities

Tuesday morning the seventh and eighth graders and high school pupils heard Mr. Scott Leavitt speak on war conditions. John Weaver was absent to Helena to help with a stolen car recovery. Miss Edith Patterson returned to teach mathematics and Latin at Teton County High. Grace Relding joined as a freshman. The sophomores held a class meeting, results pending. The Lyceum program featured The Art Quartette after Mr. Poluni’s entertaining act. The zoology class chases bugs with nightly bug parties and requests rare specimens be handed to a zoology student.

Anderson Stafford marriage in Lewistown

The marriage of Miss Anna Anderson and HH L Stafford occurred Tuesday in Lewistown. Both reside at Chateau. Miss Anderson teaches at Kalma school and is well known. Mr Stafford is known locally. They plan to travel through Nebraska visiting relatives and friends send congratulations.
