Officials Advise Choteau District To Buy Building
Choteau district urged to buy the county high school building to serve next year. Current rent of 160 dollars monthly under a one year contract would end with purchase at term’s end. Appraised value stands at 48 thousand dollars with a 16 mill levy needed for one year. Proceeds would be shared among four county high schools by enrollment, with Choteau receiving about a quarter. A 20 percent taxpayer petition and a 40 percent property owner vote are required to move forward.

Days of 49 to feature games at Chateau Legion pavilion
Lions club sponsors plan two night carnival at the American Legion pavilion in Chateau on September 26 and 27. More than 20 luck and skill games including bingo roulette poker and darts will raise funds for the Chateau Lions club swimming pool. Proceeds from the event will support the pool, with a country store lunch room and popcorn confectionary also planned. General chairs are R. E. Nelson J. L. Scott and W. G. Dauwalder with C. B. Wedum in merchandise and 55 assistants helping.

Bear Sighting Ends with Local Insurance Man’s Rifle Triumph
Arnold Hanusa, a local insurance man, shot a 406-pound black bear near his cabin north of Black Leaf canyon after the bear approached his home in search of victuals. The shot, fired from about 20 feet with a 35 Winchester rifle, ended the encounter. Hanusa plans to tan the hide and eat bear steak.

Minister Emeritus To Deliver Sermon At Choteau Sunday
The Rev. Douglas H. Cornell D. D. minister emeritus of Glencoe Union Church Illinois will speak at Choteau Methodist Church next Sunday morning September 21 at 11 o'clock. Cornell began his ministry in 1903 at Sixth Presbyterian Chicago later led Michigan City First Presbyterian and Glencoe Congregational where he formed an interdenominational church and served long as pastor before retiring in 1944.
