Ebert Malone Funeral Rites Held Tuesday

Ebert C. Malone, former Choteau area resident, died Saturday in Ronan. Services were held Tuesday at Ronan United Methodist Church with burial in Ronan Cemetery. He was a 1930 Ronan High School graduate and longtime farmer who owned Malone Irrigation Service. Survivors include his widow Isabelle, son Carlton Malone of Missoula, daughter Patricia Hannon of Kalispell, brother Jesse Malone, and sister Catherine Aancrud.

Toren Benefit Dance Slated For Saturday

A benefit dance on Saturday September 18 at 9 30 p m in the city pavilion invites donations for the Duane Toren Sr family. Proceeds aid hospital costs after Rorrie Toren sustained a broken back in a drone riding accident. The Toenyes Family Orchestra will provide music.

Punt Pass and Kick Contest Scheduled for Saturday

Allan Clarke of Choteau Ford Sales announces the annual Punt Pass and Kick competition for Saturday at 2 p.m. on the Choteau High School football field. Registration runs until 2 p.m. Local rules require tennis shoes with canvas uppers for all participants aged 9 to 13, with winners advancing to zone and then to Great Falls for further rounds.

Bulldogs Set to Face Malta After Opening Loss

Chateau Bulldog football suffers an 18-6 non conference setback to Columbia Falls. Sophomore Rusty Dailey scores the lone Chateau TD and gains 91 yards as the team prepares for a Friday conference clash at Malta. Malta, defeated 27-8 by Glasgow in its opener, hosts the Bulldogs in the early league matchup.

Local Chateau Enrollment Dips Slightly This Year

Chateau school enrollment falls by 10 students from last year with 601 total students. High school 244 and grade school 357 compare to 256 and 355 previously. Grade-by-grade counts include 54 freshmen 67 sophomores 58 juniors and 65 seniors. Kindergarten to eighth grade totals and special education count provide a full local breakdown.

Coach to honor weekly standouts Dailey and Armstrong

Coach Dean selects sophomore Rusty Dailey for offense and junior Jack Armstrong for defense this week. Dailey gained 91 yards on offense while Armstrong made 7 unassisted tackles and recovered a fumble. Other cited players include offensive linemen Mark Armstrong Doug Hansen and Bill Smith defensive linemen Todd Curtis Mark Armstrong and Rich Carroll. Running back Steve Hinman rushed for 71 yards for the Bulldogs.

Columbia Falls Drives Ahead With 1-Yard TD Run

The Columbia Falls Wildcats, sparked by a second half kickoff, drove 15 plays from the 15 yard line for a third score as Bond punched in from one yard. They earned six first downs in the sequence while averaging nearly six yards per rush. Rusty Dailey opened another series with a first down before Paul Grilley intercepted for Columbia Falls. The Wildcats then punted from their own to the Choteau 15 before the period ended and Choteau moved for two plays after the period.

Winter Hours For Library At Chateau

The Chateau Library announces winter hours under Librarian Mrs. Robert Nauck. Hours include Monday 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday 12 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. The schedule also lists Saturday sessions and midweek openings.

City Awards Water Line Contract to Robert Swortzel

The City Council awarded a $7 716 51 bid for 765 feet of six inch water line to Robert Swortzel for the new hospital site. Other items include a flood study for Chateau, potential outdoor recreation funds, and a sewer lagoon expansion funded by a Montana state easement payment of 2663 dollars.

S I Bonds To Finance Sewer Line

The City of Choteau will sell 50000 Special Improvement District Bonds on September 20 at 8 p.m for constructing a sewer line in the Choteau Country Club Addition. The bond issue is tax exempt. A revolving fund guarantees payment of these and future bonds. Three lots remain owned by Chateau Country Club which will cover its share of the tax. Bidders set interest up to 8 percent annually. Old Settlers Plan To Meet September 25

Teton County's oldest settlers will gather in the Chateau pavilion on Saturday September 25 for a 6:30 p.m. dinner with a program a dance visiting and reminiscing to follow. Committees have been appointed for the yearly affair by President Jesse Malone and plans are proceeding for this highlight event of the year for many of Teton County's older citizens.

Drug Store Burglary Reported in Teton County

Sheriff Pete Howard reports the Chateau Drug Store was burglarized last Friday night and discovered Saturday morning by pharmacist Herb Foster. About $762 in merchandise was stolen. the burglary is under investigation by the Teton County Sheriff's office.

Rural Firemen Called Twice During Week

The Chateau Rural Fire Department responded Sunday to a grass fire in a borrow pit along a Farmington country road. The blaze threatened a nearby stubble field but was controlled. sparks from a passing truck emergency brake were blamed. On Monday evening around 6 p.m. crews were sent to a stubble fire on the Ralph Caskey farm but arrived to find it under control, likely started by a passing vehicle.

Federal Grant Approved For Chateau Airport Runway

A $76,320 federal grant approved through Senator Lee Metcalf will fund an overlay paving for Chateau Airport runway resurfacing. Airport Commission Secretary Magg Baker said start date is unclear but likely next spring.
