Milwaukee Secures Franchise Along Grove Street

Judge Sam Stephenson of Great Falls for Chicago Milwaukee and Puget Sound railway and A G Baker Montana division engineer won a franchise for right of way on Grove street in Choteau. Milwaukee surveyors confirmed in town and will move camp toward Waller area. Surveys run parallel with Great Northern across Choteau at 135 feet apart.

August teacher exam results show high pass rate

The August examination for teachers saw more than usual passes with 34 applicants submitting 291 manuscripts. Seventeen third grade, nine second grade, two first grade and one professional certificates issued. Five failures, including two in arithmetic and four other subjects. Certificates awarded to Laura McBride and many others. grading of seventh and eighth grade papers still pending.

Great Northern Files Suits To Secure Choteau Route

The Great Northern Railway through its Cho teau subsidiary filed pendens suits against lands and town lots as precautionary measures against Milwaukee road rights of way. Landowners named include Julius Hirshberg and Wao Hodgeakiss with A L Halladay paid 200 dollars an acre for a right of way. The projected line would pass near Halladay's old Hamilton ranch but most of the townsite remains on the east side.

Progressive State Ticket Nominated at Helena Convention

The Progressive Party in Helena on Saturday nominated a full state ticket led by United States Senator Joseph M. Dixon of Missoula. Slate includes governor Frank J. Edwards of Helena and other statewide officers with electors Konrad Kohrs, J T Stanford, A W Merrifield, and Sam Gordon among the presidential elector choices.

Teton County Fair Opens With Record Entries and Bright Exhibits

Teton county's agricultural fair and livestock exhibit opened with large, diverse displays of grains vegetables fruits and livestock. Notable shows included Flowerzee ranch vegetables and apples J E Cashman berries apples and cherries and a forestry bureau exhibit. The racing program featured Win Loomis on a 3/4 mile run and auto trials with Jameson winning the first day. Balloons rose under clear skies as spectators enjoyed a calm, windless ascent.

Hill Gifts Cup for Best Wheat at County Fair

Former President L W Hill of the Great Northern provides a handsome cup and ribbons to be awarded to the top wheat grower at the county fair. The cup was furnished by Mr Lill, who supports Montana agriculture with strong effort.

Railroad Surveyors Near Cut Bank Reported by Pioneer Press

The Pioneer Press in Cut Bank notes a party of Lea railroad surveyors southward near the town, likely moving from Carlston after a union with Canadian Pacific. Their exact route remains uncertain while they were seen working on the Blackfeet reservation.
