Bond Vote Sought for $70,000 Sewage Plant in Choteau

Choteau electors will decide a special bond issue of 70000 to fund a new sewage disposal system to replace the condemned present plant. Voting hours run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m with Ward 1 at the club room and city hall and Ward 2 residents voting at their polling places. All city electors urged to cast ballots.

Annexation plan for Cowgill addition defeated in Choteau

North-west Choteau property owners rejected the Cowgill addition annexation with 37 of 63 owners opposing. The meeting also heard about separate sewer system talks, sewer rates, housekeeping room reductions, and Blomberg Mimo property notes. Cemetery caretaker Breere discussed issues and several TV and building permits were issued.

Police Court Fines for Traffic Violations

In Justice Sulgrove's court J Watthem of Great Falls paid a 19 fine for driving a truck over the 45 mile per hour limit on September 4. Arthur J Barnes of Albert Lea Minnesota forfeited a 10 bond for exceeding the 25 mile per hour limit through Bynum on September 7.

Boy Hurt in Car Collision Near Kalispell

A 6 8 year old Bynum boy was struck by a northbound car after darting from behind a pickup. He suffered a broken right leg including ankle and knee and was treated for injuries. Witness Max Kenneth Graham of Kalispell. traffic cited for Reckless driving. Speeding violation by Arthur J Barnes led to a $16 bond forfeiture.

Program Permits Wheat Planting To Protect Land

Farmers may plant wheat to protect their land and for feed while remaining eligible for price support on 1955 crops, provided excess acreage is utilized before harvest. The plan requires excess plantings to be designated, checked after a closing date, and disposed of so they cannot be harvested for grain. The rule stems from a 1964 law enabling adjustment before harvest.

Guthrie Funeral Held Last Friday

An obituary notes the funeral for Guthrie last Friday. He was the first principal of the local high school, long served as county treasurer, publisher of the Acantha, and involved in real estate and loan business in the teens. Names of Teachers Released by County Supt of Schools

The county superintendent released the names of teachers and administrators from 23 high and elementary schools in Teton county. The list shows districts, schools, and staff including principals, superintendents, and numerous teachers across multiple towns and Hutterite colonies.

Tot Drowns in Ditch Near Farm Home

The 21 month old Dar lene Marie Asmus, daughter of a Teton County family, disappeared briefly near their Fairfield area home and was found in a five foot ditch. Coroner G. L. Banks said the shallow water could be waded out. Despite artificial respiration and a resuscitator in Fairfield, she died. Funeral services were held at Power Lutheran church with burial in Beck community cemetery.

Three Youths Bound Over to Court on Tool Theft Charge

Three Dutton men aged 18 to 22 faced preliminary hearing before Justice William Irwin on grand larceny charges. Bound to district court in 1000 bond each, they allegedly stole tools worth 75 dollars from Willard Paulus’s combines around Aug 25. Deputy Beyl and Sheriff Peterson recovered additional stolen tools. Nelson posted bail. Barker faces a Friday plea before Judge Hattersley.

Former Chateau Resident Killed in Car Crash

Donald H. Collins, 25, of Ephrata Washington, died in an August car accident in Washington. Glen Thomas of Butte, injured and in critical condition at a Wenatchee hospital, shares the trip. Collins, born in Choteau, moved to Ronan after 1935. military funeral services for the Korean veteran were held in Ronan. Survivors include two children Sindy Sue and Sandy, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Harry Collins of Ronan, two half sisters Revo Fay Thomas and Ella Lewis, and two nieces Eva May Pearson and Dorthea Duncan.

Lions 49er Event Set for October 1 2

The Chateau Lions club announces the annual 49er event will be held Friday and Saturday October 1 and 2. Rex Peterson of the committee said proceeds from the two day carnival go to the Chateau Lions swimming pool benefit fund.

Registration in Grade School Shows Increase

Chateau school reports 569 total registrations for 1954 55 with 398 in elementary and 171 in high school. Kindergarten counts 47, elementary up about 20 from last year while high school remains level, though more students may register after harvest. Senior 33, Junior 48, Sophomore 42, and Freshman 48 comprise class totals.
