Three pivotal state races loom as polling opens 8 a.m. for nine precincts and 1 p.m. for six on Tuesday November 2 in Teton County. The county clerk lists 15 precincts with school and hall venues and names election judges for Chateau and Precinct 2.

Inez M. Simon New County Public Health Nurse

Inez M. Simon, Havre, begins duties as county public health nurse with offices at the Choteau courthouse. She is the first local nurse since Lillian Urban and will hold Wednesday 2 to 5 pm and Saturday 9 to 12 am except first Saturday monthly, with other days on field trips. She trained at Columbus School of Nursing and UC Berkeley, served three years in the army nurse corps in New Zealand and India, and most recently worked in San Mateo County, California. Her mother lives in Havre.

Legion Head Will Address District Meeting

Commander Eugene F. Naegle of Helena will speak at the district No 8 fall meeting in Fairfield. Attendees include Paul Kropp of Choteau as presiding district commander, with department officers Adjutant Herb Kibler and Eugene W Savage. The program runs through lunch and a banquet with dancing, highlighting Legion service to veterans.

4-H Achievement Day Honors 150 Members at Chateau

About 150 people attended the 4-H Achievement Day at Chateau last Saturday. Charles Crane and Kath erinette Malone led the flag ceremony, with pledges by Mary Lou Montague and Shirley Winkle. Members shared year-end project reports, candle lighting followed by a girls chorus, and awards were given to those completing projects.

Dutton Wins Judith Basin Class C Football Title

Dutton high school defeated Geyser 46 to 14 to claim the Judith Basin Class C football championship. Dick Schultz led Dutton with 20 points, James Luck added 18, Duane Harper 8, while Dixon and Meyers scored for Geyser. Geyser led 8-6 after one quarter, then Dutton surged to a 26-8 halftime lead and held on.

Voters in Teton County join electors nationwide next Tuesday November 2 to select national state and county officials. Several county races promise hot contention with final tabulation possibly days after election day. The presidential race at press time shows Truman a slight favorite in Montana while Dewey appears nip and tuck in some polls.

Halloween Penny Carnival Planned At Legion Pavilion

The Halloween Penny Carnival sponsored by the Methodist Youth Fellowship will open at 5 30 PM Friday at the Legion Pavilion in Chateau. Children exchange money for paper pennies to spend at booths such as fish ponds beauty parlor dart throws and spook house with a 8 30 PM quiz show awarding silver dollars and other prizes donated by local businesses.

Forger Gets Two-Year Sentence in Deer Lodge

John Merritt Peterson a transient from Illinois was sentenced to two years at hard labor in the state penitentiary at Deer Lodge for forgery. Judge R M Hattersley presided at the district court in Chateau last Friday. Peterson forged a Citizens State bank check for 62 dollars and signed it with the signature of Sella Oskness of Fairfield.

Dutton Collins Raise Three Wheat Loads For Foreign Relief

Dutton Collins contributions to the CROP foreign relief drive reach three carloads of wheat and 1800 dollars in cash. Wheat to be shipped from donors to Duluth with government covering overseas shipment. cash will cover shipping costs. Chateau district solicits contributions this week with no total yet.

Jerry McClue, once of Chateau and owner of the Valier Bakery, has closed the Valier shop after his eldest son contracted scarlet fever. The epidemic is serious in Valier and the closure aims to protect customers from possible spread. McClue is the son of Mr and Mrs Ray McClue, owners of the Choteau bakery.

Dedication Service at Trinity Lutheran Sunday Night

Trinity Lutheran church to dedicate Hamn Electric organ donated by the Loran Brotherhood and a pulpit chair in memory of Roy Anson. The ceremony includes Rev A Bernard Grandal and Rev A B Holland, with special music by Mrs Arnold Hanusa and Mrs Wedum. A social hour follows in the church parlors.
