The Teton county selective service board has classified 294 of 4384 registrants, with 63 in 1-A and 165 in IV-A among others. Cards are mailed as classifications are finalized, and no call-up date has been announced for 18 to 25 year olds.
Wesley A. D Ewart Republican candidate for Congress speaks at 8 p m in the courthouse at Chateau. He faces Willard Fraser in November for the seat. D Ewart, born Worcester Massachusetts, long Montana rancher and leader in Park County organizations, speaks tonight with a Beaupre cafe banquet in his honor and stops planned for Fairfield tomorrow.
The first installment of taxes on all real property in Teton county is due by 5 p m November 30 at the county treasurer s office. Delinquency after the date incurs two thirds of one percent per month, plus a two percent penalty. The second half is due May 31, 1949 with similar penalties. Taxpayers may pay full by November 30 or half by November 30 and the remainder by May 31 next year.
The U S Civil Service announces examinations for professional appointment as marketing specialist in the U S Department of Agriculture. Vacancies exist in production and marketing administration with duty in Montana and western states. Salary 2974.80 a year. Obtain forms from Robert Armstrong at Chateau post office or from local post offices. Applications to Portland Oregon Swan Island Building No 1.
A dog owned by Harold Depner was found dead after growling by a dog in the next door yard. The incident occurred late Sunday night with a prowler thought to have entered the area. Taylor reported hearing the dogs prior to the discovery.
The Choteau Bulldogs aim for a fourth win as they host Shelby Coyotes under lights at 8 p.m. Friday. Choteau seeks revenge after a 6-0 home win over Fort Benton, while Shelby has two losses and a tie this season.
Former residents crown Dianna Morris Miss Helena after a Pythian Sisters baby pageant at Helena high school auditorium. The two-year-old daughter of Edward and Mrs Morris, formerly of Choteau, earns a gold loving cup and a screen test amid judges praising charm personality and features.
Fairfield high school will play the Fort Benton Longhorns at Choteau high school field Friday afternoon at 2 o clock. The game will be followed by the Choteau Shelby contest at 8 o'clock under the lights for football fans.
The M E Church at Dutton schedules its first annual quarterly conference next Sunday with Sunday school at 10 00 a m and Rev J Homer Magee district superintendent delivering the sermon at 11 15 a m A noon pot luck dinner follows and the conference will take place after dinner Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Pendroy bazaar and dinner are set for Saturday October 23 at Pendroy community church. The farm and craft booth opens at 5 30 and a chicken dinner is served at 6 p.m.
Mr and Mrs Howard Gronberg visited last weekend at Winnett with Mr and Mrs Roy Baumgarter and family.
Nancy Jane Cole of Fairfield and Leo C Wilke of Belt married October 18 at Fairfield Community church with Reverend Robert Livingston officiating. Attendants included William W Cole and family. reception music by Mrs. Clifford Hughes. a Montana wedding trip planned before returning to Fairfield to ranch with the groom’s brother-in-law.
Jim Henderson chair of the Lions Club swimming committee notes 5714 swims and a 1984.15 operating cost with 643.40 receipts, a 1340.75 loss for the season. Expenses rose due to improvements including a new wading pool and painting. Attendance peaked August 11 with 61 swimmers. lifeguards earned pay and 38 taught swimming skills. Five Choteau swimmers entered Havre district meet with top honors in boys and girls divisions.
The Christian Rural Overseas Program launches a two week drive in Choteau and surrounding areas with 14 volunteers soliciting food and cash. Wheat is preferred though any food is accepted to fund overseas shipments aided by federal transportation subsidies. District includes Bole and Claude with drives already successful in Dutton and Collins.
4 H members will hold Achievement Day Saturday October 23 at 8 pm in the Legion Auxiliary room. Donald Liggett president of the Builders organization will preside with other members who have attended state and county events assisting. All members parents and friends are urged to attend for fun food and fellowship.
Dutton and Highwood meet for the class C sub-district title in Dutton on Friday Oct 22 at 2 pm. Both teams are undefeated. Highwood tops conference play over Belt Cascade and Centerville while Dutton defeated Augusta Simms and Power. Dutton has 205 points in four games and has not allowed a score and Schultz leads with 100 points.
Women of the Moose initiated Fern Hansen and Mary Kasper as new members at a chapter night at Moose hall in Choteau. State Moose director Cecil Swan of Helena attended and presented Mooseheart motion pictures after the meeting. Lunch was served by lodge ladies.
Postponed Royal Arch Mason potluck dinner moved from October 25 to November 8. All Royal Arch Masons their wives and widows of former members urged to attend at the new date set. Committee members stated.
Teton county farmers may order windbreak and shelterbelt trees for next spring by December 31 or earlier. Trees are grown at Montana State University nursery and distributed via county extension agents or by direct order to John P Drummond, extension forester. Seedlings cost 2.50 per 100. varieties include Dragana Russian olive golden willow white willow green ash Chinese elm juniper Ponderosa pine Douglas fir.
The O. E. S. Fidelity Chapter No. 18 invites all Eastern Stars their husbands and families to a pot luck dinner at 6 30 p m at the Masonic Temple on Wednesday October 27 followed by the regular meeting at 8 p m
Mr and Mrs David Gunderson returned from a two weeks honeymoon in Nevada after marrying October 3 at the Methodist church in Chateau. Dolores Frisell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Frisell of Pendroy, became Mrs. Gunderson. groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ole Gunderson of Power.
