John Depner Dies Monday at 72 in Choteau area
Retired Cho teau area farmer John Depner died Monday October 24 after a lengthy illness. He was 72. Funeral services Friday October 28 at 2 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. James Enghe and burial in Choteau Cemetery. Survivors include his widow Martha, son Donald of Choteau, daughters Maxine Link Great Falls and Betty Wilkerson Choteau, two brothers, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

The Montana Department of Highways approved the location and design for a 12 mile Mont ana Secondary Route No. 220 project in Teton County. The two lane roadway will include grading drainage surfacing signing and seeding with some new right of way. Public hearing was April 11 1977 in Chateau.

The Choteau City Council met October 18 with Police Chief George Anderson City Attorney Greg Curtis and City Judge Barbara Anderson to discuss police matters. Limitation hearing set on 160 acre rule in Billings
Congressman Ron Marlenee announced Interior Department enforcement hearings on 160 acre limits at the Billings Ramada Inn Mullowney Lane and I-90 on Nov 7 with sessions 9-12 am 1-5 pm and 6:30 pm until finished. The Billings event is among 10 western state hearings. Marlenee urged ranchers to testify and said Montana offices can help schedule participants.

CHS Musicians To Present Fall Concert
The Chateau High School music department will present a fall concert on Sunday October 30 at 7 30 p m in the high school auditorium. The choir band stage band and singing ensemble will perform with the choir featuring music of black America and spirituals. The band will play Porgy and Bess selections and other pieces. The reorganized stage band will perform two numbers with Lloyd Reynolds directing and MSU student teacher David Johnson assisting.

National Health Planning Guidelines proposed by HEW threaten nine county Montana system. With 147 000 population the area could lose up to 186 beds from 774 currently, forcing hospital closures and conversion to long term care. Obstetric units may be eliminated except at two facilities, and pediatric, neonatal, cardiac and radiation services may be shut if guidelines stand.
