The Chateau Lions Club finalizes plans for a Nov 19 pool festival at the city pavilion. Tom McCartney says 20 plus games, bake sale, hamburgers and refreshments will draw community help. Proceeds fund the pool and a $10,000 bath house project with federal matching funds. volunteers urged to support.
The county reorganizes road districts to eight districts with one new trader operator, Jim Lowery, stationed in Power. Districts in Dutton and Fairfield Beach shrink mileage, TL Gap reduces to 14 4 miles, and overall coverage improves in difficult areas.
Chateau Activities Inc promotes newspaper recycling with donations to be shipped to Great Falls for insulation. Executive director John Simurchak urges dropping off old papers or calling 466-5641 for pickup.
Malta captured the divisional championship with a 27 to 20 win over Choteau in a high attendance showdown at Choteau. The game featured a 20 to 20 deadlock at regulation before Malta pulled ahead late.
Cha teau Boy Scout Troop 51 held a Court of Honor on Monday Oct 24 with a pot luck dinner. Leo Pierre spoke on troop history and merit badges while awards were presented to Rob Cook Roy Dormady Darrel Larson John Ostle Alan Rice Paul Rice Bob Scott Joe Snyder Dennis Swanson Alex Truchot Joe Truchot Neil Heckerman Keith Bellows Ron Wiseman Kevin Wilkerson and new scouts listed.
Fairfield Community Hall hosts Consumer Day on November 5 with talks on whole wheat flour home use by Mary Preston, hair rinses by Ron Brumberger, and marriage topics by Rev. Vernon Hanks. A clothing style show by Dorothy Gallup and fitness guidance by Charlie Brown round out the schedule with door prizes and a 25 cent registration.
Three Cho teau churches announce public dinners over the next two weeks. The Choteau LDS Church hosts a ham dinner with a bake sale this Friday at 5 30 p.m. The Catholic Ladies of St Josephs serve beef and turkey dinner at the Chateau pavilion on Saturday at 5 30 p.m. Admission 350 for adults 175 for children and 12 for a family. The Lutheran Church offers a Lutefisk dinner November 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets must be bought in advance at Rexs Thriftway with limited quantity. Adults 4 and children 2. A dance follows the Lutefisk dinner at the Legion hall at 9 p.m. with Les Stott orchestra. The Chateau Senior Citizens bazaar and food sale run November 4 at the Lower Legion Hall from 10 a.m. Bazaar items ahead Wednesday or Thursday, food items on sale morning. Proceeds support purchasing a new building.
Coach Lee Reynolds' Choteau girls lost 38 37 at Browning after leading most of the game. Cathy Fellows led Choteau with 16 points and Theresa Scott added 11 as Browning and Chateau exchanged leads. Scott later scored 19 in the win over Fort Benton 46 33. Choteau travels to Shelby and hosts Conrad this weekend.
Reserved seat tickets are on sale in the high school office for the 1977-78 basketball and wrestling season. Basketball season pass costs 10 dollars for nine home games. wrestling pass costs 9 dollars for eight home matches. Priority given to returning seat holders. Reservations hold until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday November 29. After that, seats open to all fans.
Chateau stores reopen at 7 pm for Moonlight Madness under the Chamber of Commerce. Local retailers offer deep discounts across departments from hardware to clothing. Several shops listed include Coast to Coast and Ellen's with after 9 pm hours. A and E Lanes offers bowling and a Catholic Ladies pavilion dinner option.
Paul R. Rice died Monday at his home near Choteau at age 87 after a short illness. He served as state senator for Teton County 1941 to 1961 and acted as governor when Montana's governor was away. Funeral services set for Friday in Choteau with burial at Choteau Cemetery. Survivors include his widow Olga, daughters Della Tschantre Pauline Cronin Mary O'Brien, sons Leonard Donald and Robert, siblings and many grandchildren.

Isabel M. Darby 82 died Thursday October 27 in Seattle. Eastern Star services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Burns Funeral ChapelCho teau. Born 1895 she moved to Montana in the early 1900s. She married Clyde Dar by in 1913 Boulder. They moved to Chateau in 1923 where he served as police officer. After his 1957 death she lived with her son Joseph first in Great Falls then Havre in 1961 and Seattle in 1970. Survived by two sons Joseph C. Darby Seattle Grover Taylor Helena a daughter Ruby Tedford Santa Ana California three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
