Geo Coffey Hurt In Truck Car Collision Near Pendroy
Former county attorney and ex mayor Geo M Coffey was injured in a Sunday evening auto crash west of Pendroy on a gravel road. His Chevrolet collided with a grain truck driven by Jos E Sheeble carrying about 175 bushels of wheat. Coffey suffered cuts, bruises, and fractured ribs but was not considered in critical condition.

Montana state water conservation board and PWA engineers visited the Deep Creek Carson Lake storage proposal near Cho teau. The plan would store 15000 acre feet for 12000 acres of irrigation with a 2314 mile canal and a two mile return canal to Deep Creek. Total cost 434546 with 195546 grant and 239000 loan. repayment about 15.93 per acre foot.

E. K. Bowman former head of the state hail insurance department now crop insurance supervisor and Mr. Sabin from the Federal Crop Insurance Corp visited the county. They noted a $562 premium check from a Power farmer for 1939 and 1940 as the largest seen in the state since the program began. Officials urged farmers to use policies as collateral and apply early to avoid late rushes. About 120 applications have been written to date.

Howard A. Johnson of Boulder, a candidate for chief justice of the Montana Supreme Court, visited Choteau last Friday to campaign and meet friends. Choteau Begins First Unit of New Malone Building
Work starts Monday on the Malone building in Choteau’s future three‑unit block. The 25 by 40 foot middle section, brick and tile, will rise first under Dale Blakeley. completion is hoped in about a month weather permitting. The old Hanson Bros garage rear is removed, with fixtures moved to the front. The site bears early local history with the old frame log structure once used as a saloon run by Jake Schmidt.

Nonresident Hunters Score Big Game in Rockies Quest
Two parties of nonresident hunters spent about three weeks in the central Rockies west of Chateau on both sides of the divide. All members bagged game, including elk for each member of the first party led by Fay Lear and Abbert Peterson. The Long Beach California group included R. C. Cheroske, Freed Hair, and C. N. Eccard. The Purcell party from Casper Wyoming, guided by Percy Cox and Mr. M. Frasier, took two deer, two elk and two mountain goats.
